Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:grant ward, skye

Who: Skye and Grant Ward
When: Around 7pm 12/2
Where: Grant's apartment
What: Dinner and AoS reactions
Rating: TBA; there were be spoilers for tonight's ep, obviously

Skye was a good liar. That was one skill no one in SHIELD had needed to teach her. When she really wanted to, she could make just about anyone believe just about anything. She was so good at it that she could even lie to herself really well. She could convince herself that the time she spent with Ward was about the lie. She needed him to believe she trusted him. She needed him to believe he still had a chance with her. She told herself that all the tings she did regarding him were about the lie, her cover. She was simply playing the part.

She told herself she didn't want to be there tonight. She didn't want to sit down and watch the show with him again. She told herself that she wanted to stay as far away from him as possible and that all the talking, all the flirting, even getting Caroline to help her Christmasify his apartment was a part of her mission to find out what Garrett was really up to. It wasn't because she honestly cared if he had a good Christmas. It wasn't because she cared about him at all. That was the lie she very skillfully told herself.

Protected from the cold by coat, hat and scarf, Skye made her way over to his place juggling a pizza and a case of beer. Not that she had any intention of drinking much of the latter. She needed a clear head for this. She definitely couldn't allow her guard to drop the way it had that night after Damon had disappeared. She might have to fake wanting to be close to him, but she was determined not to fall for his lies again.

Balancing everyone with one arm, Skye reached forward to knock on his door. They had another hour before the show would start, but being early meant there would be time to eat before that crapfest of a show started.

Seeing her again, it made that worry that things were slipping beyond his control, seem just a little less. Oh she was unhappy with him still, said he'd lied to her, that he needed to come back from that by proving he could be loyal to her. And he could be. He could be honest with Skye and he could still help John and it fit. It all still fit.

He knew on some level that how he felt about her wasn't how this kind of thing normally went, no one had really said it bar Simmons, but he knew what they said, what he was pretty sure even Skye thought. Obsessive. Obsessed with her and maybe on some level he was, but it wasn't dangerous. He'd never hurt her, and he knew Skye had gone in eyes open. She knew the real him, probably better than anyone here, save John of course.

"So what are we expecting?" he said, opening the door and moving to let her in, glancing up slightly at the amazingly placed mistletoe. "More arson, more murders, maybe a few Hail HYDRA's. Or do you believe I'm doing that to keep my promise."

He obviously couldn't tell what that Ward was thinking, but he knew enough. He knew what he'd do in that situation and he figured he hadn't changed all that much. Though being free, having Skye here, having Skye begin to trust him again. It meant the world.

"Do you trust me yet?" he asked, leaving it fairly ambiguous if he meant the him that had gone back to HYDRA to set up a plan or the him standing just beside her.

"I don't know," she answered honestly. She'd been trying not to think of what was coming next. Like the version of her on the screen in the previews for this, she had a feeling bad stuff was about to happen. With Ward, with her dad, with everything that was going on.

"Didn't you already set everyone you hated on fire, anyway?" she teased, trying to be lighthearted, but her smile didn't reach her eyes, she wasn't doing a very good job of hiding her emotions, even though that was something she'd gotten more adept at.

It wasn't even all about Ward. She didn't trust him. She didn't. And right now she couldn't bring herself to lie. Instead, she pointed up toward the strategically placed plant.

"Hey, look, mistletoe," she told him. She forced a smirk and leaned up on her lips, lightly brushing her lips against his.

Was she really joking about that? He'd watched himself hug his brother, tell him that hearing Christian admit guilt was all he needed. Hearing the truth about the well, it was all he needed. And a little part of him had felt free. He'd almost believed it himself, believed he was the monster of the story. But then the memories had hit him again because of that damn staff and now, well now the anger never quite went away. But hearing Christian say that, it had changed a lot. ...but then the fire. The murder suicide he'd apparently set up. Truth was he didn't know what to think. He couldn't deny he hadn't grieved for them. And he had been trying to do just that at 15.

"Just the ones that deserve it." he said simply, not wanting to delve into the hell he'd grown up with any more than he already had in thinking about the holidays.

Luckily Skye and the mistletoe provided the perfect distraction. He was actually a little suprised that she kissed him. But she did. He never failed to be thankful that she was still willing to be here, with him, still willing to kiss him, to try to make it all okay again.

"Funny how that got there, cause you know you can't pin that one on me right?" He took the pizza and beer from her as they moved into the room, away from the wonderfully placed mistletoe. "You gonna want a beer for this?" he asked her. It was gonna be interesting, especially given what his original plan had been. Help her find the way to the truth about herself, help her meet her father.

Seemed like the other him was keeping his promise. In spades.

Skye didn't have any doubts that Ward was behind that fire. She honestly didn't really blame him much after what his brother admitted to him. She knew it wasn't right, but she also understood that need for revenge now.

The joke had been a deflection, anyway, because she didn't want to think about what was going to happen. A part of her didn't even want to watch, but her need to know was stronger. She had to see it for herself and the mistletoe provided just as much of a distraction for her as it did him. She wanted to convince herself that's all it was, that she didn't like kissing him and she was only doing it for the mission, to keep up appearances, but that was a lie. The truth was that she could feel the tension fading from her body as his lips touched hers. She closed her eyes for a moment, losing herself in that feeling.

"That definitely wasn't me," she said. "Probably Caroline." Oooops, she'd possibly just given up her partner in crime and admitted that she really was responsible for some of the Christmas that covered his place, but he probably knew she was lying about that, anyway.

"I think I might need the whole case," she admitted as she followed him into the living room, "but we'll start with one.

Probably Caroline.

Of course she'd talked someone else into it with her, particularly that someone else. Still, she'd slipped and he intended to keep that little bit of intel in mind for the future. For now though he walked back toward the couch, unable to help remembering the last time they sat there together.

Of course this time was different, she'd kissed him, yes, at the mistletoe, and he'd felt her relaxing into the kiss. She'd wanted to kiss him and that mattered to him. But all that aside, part of her would still wonder if he'd betrayed her again, if he'd lied. Oh he firmly believed she was giving him another chance, but he wished there was more to go on that her word and the way she looked at him sometimes.

"We have some time before the show, we can get a few beers in and you can tell me just how you and Caroline got your way in here and when this all happened. Cause really, I'm a little impressed." he joked

Truth be told, Skye didn't think Caroline would care if he knew about her involvement. And she didn't think he was really fooled about who had done this. That was fine, it wasn't a big secret. It was all just a part of letting him believe he had that chance with her. She needed him to believe that if they were going to learn all they could about whatever Garrett was up to.

She didn't even have to fake her amusement when he suggested she give up how she and Caroline had pulled off their decorating job. Skye just smirked at him and shook her head. "Hey, a girl can't reveal all her secrets," she teased him. "You might not like me as much if there wasn't any mystery. I will take those beers, though, and you can admit that you secretly like it a little."

Whether it did or didn't, it didn't matter. What mattered was that he thought she cared.

"Pretty sure I'd like you anyway." he replied with a shrug. The mystery was far from what had originally drawn him to her. In fact he'd fought and fought not to feel the way he did about her. But some things just seemed fated. In spite of everything he'd done and everything she believed so strongly in, here she was, with him, believeing in him, trusting him. It meant the world to him.

But for now there was the damn show, two weeks to go and they still hadn't a damn clue of any of it bar the simple fact that he had a plan for her, that he wanted to keep his promise, help her find her father. At least one of them should have a family that cared.

He grabbed two beers quickly handing her one and moved to sit on the couch.

"I'm admitting nothing about liking it, which isn't a lie, its...a not lie. I think you traumatised Glen. He keeps glaring at the lights."

Upon hearing his name the little puppy bounded across the room and came to a skidding halt glancing up at Ward who gave in and fussed it for a few seconds before looking with a practiced eye around the room before deeming it okay to discuss what he wanted to ask her. "Hey...If things go...if I ask you, would you keep Glen, for a while." he'd never say why, couldn't. But Skye knew enough of his history to know why he'd ask something like that. "There's no one I trust more than you to do it."
