============================
One year had passed since the Seal had sent him back to his world. His memories had faded, although he couldn't help but feel a sense of deja vu when he'd run into past friends in public, or read news of them in the paper. It had been a year of much reflection; he needed to do something with his life, he knew that. School was done and he had to continue on. Of course he had his share of partying and attending quidditch matches, as well as once in a while seeing a band in concert (possibly the one James was a member of). But nearly five months ago, he had begun to do some soul searching, looking deeply in any and all possible fields of employment. His family did have some money, they did fairly well. But he felt it stood to reason that money doesn't magically grow on trees (or does it?). He knew he'd have to find ways to get more. To earn it. But not shop work, or working a counter. And certainly not in muggle work such as a waiter or fast food burger cooker. Nothing too hard, but pays nicely. Something he'd enjoy. Shops in Diagon and Hogsmeade, various MoM departments, all required a good deal of research before coming to a decision. And now he believed he had found one. It would be a challenge. But then, the blond wizard didn't always go for the easy path. Now today, Scorpius was dressed quite nicely for the occasion. Slacks and white shirt were pressed, nice green tie, clean wizard robes of black and green colors, and plus his hair was nicely done. He had decided on a job that he hadn't heard of anyone else in his family trying for. Auror. Maybe he could be the first Malfoy in it. His family had shown time and again that they weren't doing anything even remotely similar to Death Eater activities. That changed when the Dark Lord was destroyed. And more so, probably changed even more so when Scorpius was born. He'd been told that a couple times at least. He realized choosing this may be a surprise to some. But when it comes to proving you're different, this could be one way. And he thought he might be pretty good at the work if he managed to pass all that was required. Who knows, maybe this can start his line toward a better path. Maybe his own future children will take it up. But he was going to focus on the now.
He stepped into the Auror Office, carrying the paper in his hands. He felt very nervous but managed to remain calm. The feeling was akin to taking a trip to the headmaster's office. Which he had on various occasions. Taking a short breath to focus himself, he had confident thoughts and handed the application to the clerk. They had looked upon it. Saw his name and what he was applying for. Raised eyebrow, a cough. A look at the paper, then at the blond, then at the paper. An "Are you serious, is this for real," type glance. He wasn't smirking. So he must be serious. Then a voiced question asking if he really wants to be an Auror or if he's just putting them on. "No," he said seriously but calmly, "this is what I really want. I should mention that I have a copy of that. In case, you know, it somehow gets.. misplaced. I swear this isn't a joke. I realize it's unexpected. Don't expect it to be easier either, but I wouldn't be here if I'd expected it to be." He heard whisperings among a couple others. Things like, "Not only a Slytherin, but a Malfoy wants to be auror,""Thought I'd seen everything," and similar things. He was not surprised. No doubt few would ever expect him to pick this job of all things. He spoke again, "Harry Potter, he is still Head Auror? Yes? If so, maybe I should make an appointment for him. I'd probably need one anyway if it's in the procedures. I know it's unprecedented. I might not even pass the training, but I'm willing to try. Any test, academic or to prove my character to see if this is for me.. I'll do anything it takes. I may fail or I may actually succeed. But I wish to make the attempt."
He couldn't say he liked those expressions. Reminded him of school, once again his family name's reputation followed him. Granted, it wasn't near as bad as his father's early days but still. It would seem that he'd need to once again prove himself and show that his family could turn out good wizards. That was the secondary reason for this choice, he supposed. If he could make it as an Auror. If he actually managed to pass everything and make it to the end? Surely that would prove to all that a Malfoy is capable of good, and also most assuredly prove that their questionable and dark past was exactly that: the past. He wouldn't let this discourage him. It would be a challenging road ahead, but he was accustomed to that. He could press on. And of course he would have support from his friends, he was sure of it. They may wonder why he'd choose a career that none other of his kind had done, but that was him, always pushing the envelope and doing stuff no one else did. And just maybe, if he did succeed at this, he could end up helping the wizarding world. He still remembered the stories of the Dark Lord, he'd hope to be able to catch any warning signs of another one. But thankfully the world still seemed to be safe.
He looked up at the office clerk and saw them give a couple nods, himself breathing a sigh of relief. He watched as the clerk took a folder on the desk which had a sizable amount of papers similar to his own, and slid his in with them. He was then informed that it would be reviewed by those whose job it was to do that, and he'd be contacted soon with a response. "So.. that's it, yes? I don't need do anymore but wait. How long?" They gave him an estimated time and he nodded in response. "Alright. Well, thank you. I appreciate the opportunity." It was spoken without any bored drawl, Malfoy trademark smirk, or cocky expression, he actually looked seemingly sincere and polite. That was probably another slight surprise. So now he was done for the day. Merlin, he hoped this worked out for him. But he'd done all he could do for his part at the moment. Just had to wait for the answer. He'd bet the Head might be surprised. But Scor's mind was made up. Now, he felt it a good time to go get some lunch. He pondered if he should owl Lilu or Roxy, or any other friends to tell the news. But.. no, maybe not yet. He thought it might be best if he was even accepted first before sending good news to anyone. Though he suspected they might know soon if Harry managed to speak of it after getting the app. The blond wizard was now walking outside, in the mood for some good fish and chips. He was close to finding a diner and reaching for the door, and then...
No streets. No lamp posts, no cars driving past. No diner. And especially no building for the Ministry of Magic! He looked up and saw the sky was different. Clear sky, whereas in London it was clear. He then glanced down. "Oh, Merlin's beard," he sighed, seeing a grass stain or two on his show. The tombstones of the cemetery wasn't lost either, he clearly saw all that too. "Okay, now this is morbid." He suddenly had a sense of deja vu. Of being here before. He remembered. Two years of memories now fresh in his mind. Memories of the battles, of things the Seal did, Lucifer, the many friends he made, and an awesome girl with fire powers, the quidditch plans, all of it. He remembered all of it in detail within his mind, wondering idly how he had even forgotten it at all. But then that was the Seal. Of course, people sent back often forgot. He did wonder if any of his friends were still here. Or were they also sent back? Just how many were gone, how many were around? He had to find out. And he also had to get some protections again. He fortunately had his wand and he could apparate. But he knew this universe well. First thing to do, get to a familiar place. But where? House of Lust, where Regina and their friends lived? He thought about it but then decided not to. Showing up suddenly at someone's home, he had better manners. No, he would find his own and make contact first. He paused in his steps again, trying to think. Where was the other place? His house.. ah, right. He focused and vanished, apparating himself to his former house, the one that had been given to him by Darcy Ainsley in his last time here.
He saw that it was still intact on the outside. Good, there wasn't a war that had destroyed it in his absence. He checked his pockets and realized he didn't have a key. "Easily solved," he said with a smirk and cast Alohomora. The door unlocked and he pushed it open, locking it once inside. He cast a lighting charm then while he moved to turn on the switches. Ohhh. It apparently had been some time. It was also very quiet. But most of all, he noticed.. dust. On the furniture, the cabinets, doors, and the smell. It would be cleaning time soon. Which again, he'd use magic to fix it. For now, it took him a while to track down an air freshener can and sprayed it in several places. He had then walked around the house. Going into each room to better familiarize himself with it. A whole year. Or more, technically, since he had moved out of this place when the Lucifer-induced dreams were starting. He began to remember the memories shared in this house, as well as that of the people who lived in it. It was nice. But slightly sad too as he noticed it was so empty. After an hour, he found his way back to his old bedroom and glanced at the computer. Ten minutes of scrutinizing it to recall how he used it before, he switched it on and connected to the internet, to the network boards. His gaze wondered to the time stamp on the bottom of the screen. Four months?? No, can't be. It was clearly a year. But there it was. His confusion lingered a moment before he realized that it's how this worked. Time travel. He took a few breaths and got comfortable in his seat, and then began to type. It was time to reach out and touch someone, as the phrase went. How did that even make sense when the individuals talking were separated by great distance geographically? He didn't always understand muggle jargon, that was for certain. In any case, he couldn't wait to see if his friends were here. There was also the possibility he could meet some new ones.
