Caroline had pretty much put two and two together after talking to Hayley. Add in the fact that Klaus had told her he was going out to do something and she was certain that what she thought she’d figured out was true. It just didn’t make sense in her head at all because of what was known about vampires, hybrids and werewolves from their world. But it had been over a year since she’d been home and considering how far behind they were from everyone else...well. She couldn’t exactly say it wasn’t a possibility.

They’d had babies in Twilight. God. She hoped there wasn’t any weird imprinting business with babies from their world. That would be too weird to handle.

Not that she even knew what to do at the moment. Her head was a jumble of thoughts, of uncertainties and doubts, but Kol had been wrong. She wasn’t angry. There was none of that. Just a mess of confusion which was turning into anxiety and so she did what she always did when she was stressed.

She cleaned.

Not that their place needed that done since it had been professionally cleaned before they’d moved in but the constant scrubbing motion with her tiny brushes helped soothe her anxiety some. So she was just going to keep on scrubbing away at the floors, windows and walls until Klaus came home, certain he’d fill her in once he did. He’d told her before that there were no secrets between them and she believed that with all her heart.

The sound of the front door opening had her turning in that direction, easily spotting the Hybrid, and she tried for a smile. “So...are congratulations in order?”

Cleaning.

Of course she was, caroline was worried, upset, confused, emotional, and when she got like that, she cleaned. Obsessively. Everything was perfectly fine before she had started but that wasn't the point. The point ultimately was ensuring she took her mind off what was bothering her so much. Which was of course Hayley and Hope. That little girl had stolen his heart just from his meeting her and he understood it was a lot for Caroline to take in. The answers to the various questions were there for anyone to see, he'd spell it out later, his family deserved to have it confirmed by him. Well, most of them. There were those involved with his sibling who would have no contact with that little girl. He would see to it.

But right now, it was about the beautiful blonde whom he loved. Who, after everything, had given her a chance to be something more.

"They are." he said simply. "Her name is Hope, and yes, she's mine. But you need to understand first of all, that I, the me here, have never been with hayley, and even at home it appeared to be a fling neither of us wanted to go anywhere. But it resulted in a little girl. A fact neither of us could have anticipated. Hayley isn't here to steal me away, and frankly even if she was, do you really think that's possible. You and I, we're forever. And I think you know that."

He took the tiny brush from her hand and placed it gently on the table.

"Come on, you have questions. I have...some answers. We need to discuss this, you deserve to know everything I do."

She knew they were forever, somewhere in the back of her head she had known that at least. But as the minutes had passed and he hadn’t returned home every insecurity that Caroline had decided it was time to rear its ugly head. She’d done a good job of squashing them all in Lawrence, of realizing that she did matter, that she wasn’t “second best” and that Klaus really did love her...but during the time he had been gone and she’d been waiting it had been really hard to hold onto that knowledge. After all she’d thought Matt had loved her at one point and he’d decided her vampire issues were too much to handle. The nagging doubt had settled in her mind and it was incredibly hard to make it just go away.

Klaus’ words eased some of that and so she nodded, not entirely sure what to say at first, but she knew she needed to talk. “Congratulations then. This should be a good thing. It is a good thing. It’s just...a lot to take in.” For him as well but she didn’t want to be the one who put a damper on him finding out something good and a baby was good news, wasn’t it?

“And maybe I did think that for a minute...or more...which really sucked and like I’m totally not codependent and have to be at your side every waking moment or whatever, but the thought that you might like…” Want her to move out, to be done with her, so many things had gone through her mind. The thought of losing Klaus had hurt more than she’d ever been able to anticipate. Caroline really didn’t know what she’d have done if that had happened.

But she didn’t want to focus on an of that. “But Hope?” That was what he’d said, right? “Did you take a picture?”
