WHO: Alaric Salztman and Jenna Sommers
WHAT: Reunited (and it feels so angsty)
WHEN: After drinking The Roadhouse out of their bourbon
WHERE: The house
WARNINGS: TBA, probably language and talk of death and violence

Even at his current state of inebriation, Ric didn't really know what he was doing. Staying under the same roof as Jenna seemed like a very bad idea in every sense and even if Damon had refused to take no for an answer, Ric knew he shouldn't be here. Was it too late to back out? Just turn around and walk the other way? He'd already learned there were hotels and apartment complexes that took refugees like him in. One of those would probably be smarter than this. It would be better for the others. Ric was in control of himself now, but who was to say that would last? Who could be certain that his alter ego wouldn't come back and take over at any moment?

He couldn't have told what got him through the door, but he did cross that threshold and he glanced around to get his bearings. He'd only been there a moment when he caught sight of a familiar face, one that he hadn't seen in quite some time and yet every detail was familiar to him. Jenna.

A thousand thoughts ran through his mind at once, things he wanted to say to her. Apologies, mostly, and maybe a few questions as well. Standing here in front of her, Ric knew he didn't deserve to be in her company. She was this amazing, beautiful woman and he was... a monster, a deeply flawed man who had done so many things she couldn't possibly forgive, not matter how desperately a part of him wanted her to.

Ric could only stand there studying her for a moment as his conflicting emotions warred with one another. When he finally spoke, he didn't say any of the things that were on his mind. He didn't open with an apology to tell her to stay away from him. All the came from his lips was one single word.

"Hey."

She wasn't drunk. She wasn't even close to it. Jenna wanted to be drunk, very much, but the most she'd been able to achieve was mildly buzzed, and it wasn't even a happy buzz. It was a weird, mostly morbid buzz and it didn't do anything at all to alleviate the oppressive awkwardness she was functioning under. That was the story of her life, though. Drink 'til it was funny, and if that doesn't happen, drink some more.

She was just thinking about running upstairs to her room, maybe to take a soak in the tub, when Ric was just there. There in her house, standing on his feet, and looking at her with his eyes. And tlking to her. With his mouth.

Shit, he was talking. What had he said?

Jenna shook her head, taking a deep breath as she stared. She couldn't help herself.

"What?"

Smooth, Sommers. Real smooth.

Ric wasn't really drunk, either. He'd downed a lot of bourbon, but vampires didn't get drunk quite as easily as humans. The bourbon did take the edge off his heightened emotions, but it hadn't done a lot to ease that feeling of guilt or that feeling of not being worthy. Standing in front of Jenna now, that feeling intensified. He looked at her and knew he didn't deserve her, in any sense.

Elena and Caroline had both told her Jenna was "up to speed" on everything. Elena had even suggested that Jenna was okay with everything he'd done. How could she be, though? He wasn't okay with it. There were things he could never make up for, things he would hate himself forever over. How could she feel anything less?

As he returned her stare, Ric knew he should turn around and walk out, but he couldn't seem to make his feet and his legs move. It was as if he was frozen in place, under some kind of spell.

"Jenna..." he began before he realized he had no idea what to say to her.
