Who: Clara (with appearances by The First) What: Someone is following Clara as she tries to get the ingredients for the spell to Sarah, and someone else isn't leaving her alone. Where: Sunnydale, near the Crawford Mansion When: Four hours after Clara agrees to get the supplies. Rating: Low
It hadn't taken her as long as she had expected to find out where to get what Sarah needed. It was true that the magic shoppe was destroyed, but the people in Sunnydale knew things there weren't normal. The people in Sunnydale weren't exactly helpless, or at least they tried not to be. It took her reverting to being an actual vengeance demon again to put the scare into the people who'd summoned her the night before but she knew where to get the ingredients.
Vengeance demon. She'd never really watched the television show; she understood the brilliance that was Joss Whedon but she'd always preferred Firefly or Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog as opposed to the television show he'd made his name on. But she knew what a vengeance demon was because her best friend had been obsessed with Anyanka. Once she'd seen herself in the mirror she knew exactly what she was, and it had been quite unsettling. She'd never been anything other than human, even if she was a human split into infinite pieces along someone else's timeline. Being a demon had been quite strange, and she'd kept herself separate from the others the entire time they'd been there so far. She'd managed to go back to looking human fairly quickly after she caught a glimpse of herself in a shop window, but she'd largely avoided the others, which probably wasn't smart, but she'd felt she had no other choice.
It had changed when Caroline asked about whether people were seeing things that weren't really there. Since she had gotten there she'd been seeing River Song everywhere. She had never asked the Doctor if she and his wife were still psychically linked, but he had told her a bit about what had happened to River and the fact she inhabited the TARDIS. She hadn't seen River since the incident in Trenzalore with the Great Intelligence so she had assumed they were no longer psychically linked. But then she began speaking, telling her to give up, to give in. From everything the Doctor had ever said about River she knew that was the absolute last thing the woman would do. But soon she was popping up all the time. "Hello, sweetie" never sounded so ominous before.
"You really should pay more attention to where you're going," River said from her left. She started slightly and then glared at River. Or, rather, glared at The First. She knew what it was now, what it did and how it operated. She wasn't going to fall for it now.
"Leave me alone," Clara replied, continuing to walk.
"If you're lost in thought all sorts of nasty creatures can get you," River said sweetly. "Things worse than Daleks. You remember the Daleks, don't you?"
"I sincerely doubt there's anything worse in Sunnydale than a Dalek," she replied. "Except maybe you. But I know your trick now. I won't fall for it."
"Well, I am worse than a Dalek, after all," River replied with a chuckle. It sounded quite ominous to Clara. "But anyhow. I've gotten in your head and I've taken residence there." River moved in front of her but she simply stepped around and continued walking. "I'll get you to see I'm right."
Clara was about to respond when she sensed it. There was someone behind her. She moved more quickly in response, but she didn't know what was following her or where a safe place to hide would be. She needed to get somewhere to send a message to Sarah, and she needed people to come help her if it got sticky. She looked around and saw a tall foreboding mansion. Knowing she might not have much time, she began to make a beeline for the mansion.
"Run, you foolish girl," River called out. "Run." And with that Clara made her way to the door and flung it open, hoping she could get help in time.
