She cupped Hopper against her chest with one hand, lifting the other arm to slide it weakly around Adrian's neck, blinking in surprise when he picked her up. She must have lost more weight than she'd thought - but it was hard to see herself right now. Leaning her head against his chest, Sydney shut her eyes again. "They were. It was in the air, anytime they wanted me to sleep," she whispered, wishing that Adrian didn't have to see her this way.
Opening her eyes when he lay her in the car, she tensed when he disappeared for a moment, then curled up when he draped the jacket over her. Shifting so that she could see his profile, Sydney moved Hopper to where he set the candy bar so that he could eat, carefully feeding him small bites. "Before sleep, I kind of want a shower. I want to be warm again."
