If it weren't for his enhanced hearing due to being a vampire, he would have missed that voice. He turned, not seeing anyone at first. For a moment he was afraid that he was hearing Sydney's voice now as well. But his eyes dropped down and he spotted her. Her pallor was pale, her golden hair disheveled and dirty. Sydney had always been on the thin side (even with his insisting she eat more) but he could see some of her ribs now.
He couldn't even identify all the emotions he was feeling right now. Anger. Rage. Relief. Heartbreak at what had been done to her. Guilt for his carelessness that led to her being caught. He took one shaky step forward and then he rushed to her side, dropping to his knees and pulling her into his arms, oblivious to anything else.
"I'm here Sage...I'm here..." he whispered, his voice thick. Without thinking or caring about her protests, he summoned Spirit and focused, sending the healing energies into her in case she had some injury he couldn't see. "You're okay now...you're safe...we're safe again from them..."
