She'd tell him lying shouldn't be this easy. She'd say it was typical of him. But he'd seen the reply she sent. She was willing to meet him, he had 30 minutes or she walked, and he knew that she would and it would be harder to get a second chance. And so lying was just easier. And no one got hurt, ultimately he got what he wanted. He called a cab company, run by a guy called Manuel, he already knew how to play it. His accent was perfect, every inflection, and he knew Spain well enough to have worked out the driver's origin by the time he'd gotten through the phonecall. Half an hour for a cab journey to where he needed to be was unacceptable and so he'd spun a story, he was from the same town as the driver, a quick phone search had given him enough facts for the journey, and the guy had gotten him there in fifteen minutes. Ultimately he really had to get a car here, but this would do for now.
When he reached the restaurant Skye had mentioned couldn't help but bring to mind the last time they'd been at a place like this together. He'd been trying to get her to decrypt her hard drive and she'd been playing him, she'd known about Garrett, known he was Hydra and she'd looked at him with more disgust than he could stomach. Ad then, when he'd gotten her back to the bus, even more so. Telling him none of this was under his control, she'd never help him, called him a serial killer. He'd make her see the truth though, he just needed to talk to her. And for that...
"Buena suerte, espero que a la chica, la culpa es de tu padre"
It really was a shame about his father. He still lied too easily, maybe always would. Manipulation and lies came so easily to him. But not with Skye. He'd lied to her sure, but not about his feelings. He loved her. And for a while he thought he could have both, be loyal and get the girl. But life didn't work that way. So with a hopeful ending to the sob story, he was ready to exit the cab after, 19 minutes. Oh he was good.
" Sí, gracias, que va a trabajar, la amo"
Poor guy even waived the fare
His very demeanor shifted once he was out of the drivers sight and walking into the restaurant. Accent gone, sob story gone. This was as close to the real Grant Ward as anyone other than Garrett had ever seen. And of course Skye deserved that from him, more than anyone.
