It had to have been terrible to constantly doubt you were awake. Life would have been made so much more difficult by that fact. Allison could only imagine what Scott was going through. It was true that she had demons of her own and that sometimes she still had nightmares about the death that she’d experienced in Lawrence, but her demons were different from his and that made it harder to know what he needed to feel better.
“I love you, too.” The corners of her mouth twitched into a sad smile. She touched Scott’s cheek with one hand. “We’ve been through a lot, Scott, but you know what? We always come out of it okay. Maybe I’m...” She trailed off. Why was it so hard to say just one word? Dead. She was dead at home. “Maybe I’m not around back home, but I’m still here. I’m still here and it’s real and you’re awake.” Allison leaned in to give him a gentle kiss.
