Melissa didn't like seeing her son upset like this. She sure didn't like knowing that the first girl who meant something to him had died. He was such a good kid, overall, and he didn't deserve that. Life really liked to throw him some mean curve balls. Melissa stayed where she was, even when Scott pulled away from clinging to her, her hand resting on his upper back between the shoulder blades. "Of course there's more..." Melissa murmured, hating the idea that he had more to say, more to make him sad and depressed.
Closing her eyes, Melissa felt a stab of guilt in her gut. She wished that there was a way she could take his pain away. A kid shouldn't have to go through this much pain so young. He'd already been through too much, as far as she was concerned. "I'm so sorry." Melissa leaned down, resting her cheek on top of Scott's head and wrapping her arms around his shoulders. "You never should have had to go through that once....let alone twice."
It didn't matter, though, it had happened already. And it didn't matter how strong he was....a person's strength could only go so far. There was nothing she could do to make it better either, just try to do what she could to help him get through it.
