Melissa, despite joking, knew that there was definitely something heavy weighing on her son. It was in the slight weight to that smile that tugged at this mouth, and it was at the very demeanor of him. He'd always been a happy kid that bounced back so quickly, but when something big happened, it was easy to read him. Or maybe that was just her.
The second that the words started to flow from Scott she knew that something bad was coming. And by the time she realized he said the word dead she felt her stomach drop. Even with the two of them broken up...she knew that he loved her. Maybe it was just that teenage love that everyone moves passed once they get a little older, and maybe it wasn't. It didn't really matter because it was causing her son pain.
"Oh, honey...." Even if she was alive and here, that knowledge....knowing what would happen if she ever left, and knowing that he couldn't stop it.... She knew that Scott couldn't be handling that well. Despite her earlier injury, Melissa didn't even hesitate, she stood up and moved over to her son in the chair. She didn't know what to do to make it better, so she did the only thing she could; she ran her hand over his head in a soothing manner and sat on the arm of the chair before pulling him in close. "That's some heavy stuff."
