He hadn't felt like himself in weeks. Months maybe now. He wasn't even sure what day it was anymore. Since Connor was gone, his life had taken a downward spiral. He knew logically Connor would be disappointed, but physically and emotionally he'd just had enough. What reason did he have to keep fighting if the seal kept taking? More than half the time he spent on the island was spent with his head phones in his ears. White noise, or music. It didn't matter, so long as it blocked voices from reaching his ears. There were only so many times he could stand to be burned. He was tired of it.
And yet this wasn't right either. He couldn't even remember the last time he'd truly laughed or smiled. It took effort to say something sarcastic on the internet, when usually that was automatic. He sought solace in Kol, a person he'd never thought he'd even want to talk to much less confide in. Yet he was still confused. What dd he do with this emotion? He wasn't as capable of turning it off as he'd like to think he was.
Kon tried, for Lois and Clark's sake to be normal. But he'd forgotten what normal felt like. So he took Claire up on her offer. He was tired of being a misery, tired of missing out on events he'd normally enjoy. Tired of being so damn tired all the time. He finally took the first step, wrote Clark and Lois a note to tell them he'd gone to see Claire, and left the island behind him.
It took only a minute for him to arrive at Claire's, dressed in the solar jacket he'd wished for and jeans. He hesitated at her door, just watching it awkwardly for a moment before reaching out finally to knock. He wanted to stop being afraid, but Jacen was right. For that to happen he had to try to trust again. So this was him, officially trying.
