Fred Burkle ([info]notjustageek) wrote in [info]wariscoming,
In the short time she'd been in Lawrence, Fred had been hard at work making the apartment her own. It provided a welcome distraction from the few days previous and the circumstances that had led to her arrival. Once in a while, her hand would settle on her chest, feeling her heart beating reassuringly. She was alive and she was healthy. It seemed that changing dimensions had been a gift, not a curse this time.

But it didn't fix everything. Wesley. She remembered the look on his face as she'd fought to draw in a breath, her body racked with pain. If she was here, had she still died there? The last thing she wanted was to cause him, no, all of them, pain. Her boys. The ones she had come to love and trust with all her heart over the years. Angel with his hard headedness and stubborn determination to save the world, Charles' fierce loyalty to his friends, his family. Wesley's brilliance, Cordelia's warrior heart, and Lorne's passion for life. Even Spike, as a newcomer, she counted in that group. What she would do without them in her life, she wasn't sure.

And she was happy to see Lorne and Spike here, as well as Andrew, and Buffy and Xander, even though she only knew them from stories. Reassuring comforts in a strange place. A very, very, very strange place.

When the knock came at the door, she put her bookmark in its place and set the book on the couch. Getting to her feet, she crossed over to the door and pulled it open. A smile stretched from ear to ear as she saw who was standing behind the door. "Hey Lorne!" she greeted him cheerfully, pulling the door open wider for him to come in.
