THE APOCALYPSE

 photo rky0xt.gif

This is your IC Threadpost.

Please keep things labelled with character names in the subject line.

I'll be doing a few subheaders. Pre fight, Battle, Hellbound and Aftermath. Tag into any of these and if you want another subthread made ask me or MJ so it looks all tidy and whatnot.

Go forth and thread mah lovelies
I'm also gonna suggest cutting comms from the battle to the aftermath down to bare mimimum communications while the main battle threads go on to keep it a little bit real time. If you have to for time constraint reasons please mark it post battle

He'd come in toward the last of the survivors. Being the field medic he had to make sure people were able to limp in, and those who needed carrying in got it. But then finally yes, he was among them. Sitting in the snow at the entrance of the Roadhouse, staining it with crimson.

He looked up at the sound of someone coming near. His hand tensing again and causing him to grimace in pain. He couldn't shoot anymore. If it was a demon, that was it. That was the end of the line, he couldn't even flex his hand. But through blood and dirt he could see it was Florence. She was safe, at least as much as could be given the battle and all. Part of him had wanted to stay back with her and Bo, but the other knew he was more use to them out in the field. Captain Watson still existed deep down beyond the pain and hurt he'd been subjected to that this world kept throwing in his face. It'd shown on the battle field too.

"He's gone..Lucifer. We won." But for one who'd just beaten the devil, his face didn't reflect happiness that should have been there. Only sorrow, the cost had been great. Two people that had acted as a rock to him were gone.

John had several deep injuries on his face. One above his eye that likely needed stitches and his left hand was wrecked. It was almost likely he'd not be able to shoot anymore judging by it's mangled appearance. His entire left sleeve of his jacket was gone, torn of by some massive animal judging by it's pitiful appearance. John was unphased by it.

"Rose and Harry are gone." He finally managed to say. Every time he tried to get better, this world just threw pain and suffering back in his face. No light reached his eyes, it was almost as though they'd actually lost to him.

She was unbelievably proud of him for being able to be out there. For standing on his feet and fighting. She wasn't thrilled with Khan for choosing him for the front lines, but she knew what the man was thinking. John was a sharp shooter, a damn good doctor, and when he was able he'd be brilliant in battle. He'd just needed that boost of confidence was all.

Relief flooded through her at his words. Lucifer was gone. They'd done it, they'd won the damned war, just as they'd planned. Only it was obvious from John's expression, from his tone, that it wasn't exactly as they'd planned. They'd planned on them all living through the war. Something had happened.

She listened, reaching for his medical bag for bandages and antibiotic cream. But her hand froze as he revealed what had hurt him so. Harry? Rose? The two of them meant almost as much to her as they did to John. They'd been a trio, a solid group trying to get John through his darkest times. Freddie had helped when he could, Jacen was fickle at best, and Kat...helped often, but could never be considered a part of the group. But the three of them had been the grounding point for their friend. And now... Now she had to get him through this. Almost entirely alone.

And Bo. Her sweet baby, Bo. She'd have to know. She'd need to be told. She liked Harry and she adored Rose and now they were gone. Florence leaned back on her heels, her breath stuck somewhere in her throat. She couldn't breathe, she couldn't speak, not at first. Where did one find the comfort for something like this? Losing one friend had been hard enough. Losing two more?

"John..." she finally whispered, but she wasn't sure what to follow that with. And, disregarding the blood that stained him, she reached out, pulling him close for a tight hug.

The losses hadn't entirely caught up to him just yet. He was still in shock, both from being back on the front line of war and loss. John found it difficult to speak, it was like he was stuck and couldn't breathe. Rose and Harry were gone, his two close friends. He could barely function and it wasn't just due to the injury or cold. He couldn't process it. He didn't want to.

"Lucifer is gone." He repeated again as though he were still trying to figure out how he was supposed to respond. She was talking to him, or at least sort of. She'd said his name, so he was probably supposed to say something. That was all he could think of. They'd been sent to hell. The rack the demons kept bragging about was the most horrible place to be. Rose and Harry.

He was a doctor. He was supposed to save lives and did of strangers every minute on that field but he couldn't save the people that meant the most to him. Now, he couldn't even cry over them properly. He didn't have the energy to mourn them yet. He didn't have the stomach to feel anything beyond physical pain.

When Florence hugged him all he could do not to break was close his eyes. Memories of Harry falling still flashed through his mind, of Rose turning her back on them. He was tired. Emotionally and physically he had nothing left to give. All he could do was lean against her in silence.

Lightly, lovingly, Florence rubbed his back, desperately trying to offer up some of her own strength for him. For all her fear about those out in the heat of battle, Florence herself hadn't been out there. She wasn't injured, she'd hidden. And John, who everyone kept saying was so damaged, had gone out there to face it anyway. She was minimal compared to him and she loved him for it.

But what good was that when she couldn't do the one thing he truly needed? When she couldn't bring the people he loved back?

"I'm so sorry," she said softly, kissing his hair and giving one last gentle squeeze before pulling back to look at him. "You need to get patched up, John. See if Martha or Simon are around." But Martha would be grieving, too. Why was this even happening? Why were they being subjected to all of this?

After two and a half years in Lawrence, she still operated on the belief that there had to be something in life that was fair. But there wasn't, was there? Not here. Not anywhere. No matter which side you stood on, no matter who you depended on. It's why she'd been so determined not to get close to anyone again, to focus on herself.

And damn if she hadn't gone and let everyone in again.

Energy was good. Energy was a thing John could barely muster anymore after hours of patching and fighting and killing. Possibly longer really, he'd all but lost track of time during war. That sort of thing happened when all one saw infront of them was blood of fallen friends. He'd been going on auto pilot most of the time. Sherlock ad once accused him of missing war, but if he saw this maybe his mind might change. This wasn't just war, it was practically slaughter on both sides. He could barely see which side was winning. He knew in war there often wasn't a real winner, but since he'd been in Kansas the lines had always been clear. Now they were muddy and full of blood.

John's hands were stained with blood as he held onto her. They shook slightly. His already damaged hand was swelling the longer he let it go. The longer it went the less chance he had to get movement in it back, he knew that. He knew that but he didn't want to leave Florence just yet.

"The count was high." He'd waited until the last wave of fighters still standing had left, that was the job of the medics and the captains alike. Wait until everyone was able to leave, did. John had seen so many on their side down, and so many civilians mindlessly slaughtered. He wasn't sure at this point which was worse, Afghanistan or Kansas. Both made him feel equally ill to his stomach, but that could come later. He still needed to keep going for everyone elses sake. People needed a doctor, but what in the world did he need?

Rose was gone. Harry too had fallen into the pit. That was what would make him better.

"Right..patched." When she pulled away the look in his eyes was distant, worn. He didn't want to let go of her hand for fear that she may slip away from him too.
