She couldn’t help but smile at what he said. Not so much the parts about not caring about the people she missed, though it wasn’t as though they had to have the same friends...did Klaus even have friends? She made another mental note to work on Klaus and friend making. But the rest of it, the reminders that there were definitely those of their kind who had retained their humanity through the years, a big example being Lexi, meant a lot to Caroline. Also the reminder that he loved her for her humanity, not inspite of it.
“Don’t worry. I’ll always be there to point out when you should be showing mercy or when its at least not worth your time and effort to get involved.” She did understand though that there would be times when mercy wasn’t something he would be able to do and somehow she would come to grips with that as a reality. It wasn’t as though she hadn’t killed before to protect those she loved. Though not quite in the way that Klaus was known to protect his siblings or exact justice--vengeance--whatever it was being called that week.
“Did you honestly think that I was walking away forever?” Because she was going to feel really awful if that was the case. Caroline definitely hadn’t meant to scare him like that. Sometimes she forgot how new he was at relationships.
