Much was feeling more at home in the new place than he ever had anywhere else in his life. His early life had been spent with servants in a shared home with no real place to call his own. It'd been frustrating to own nothing, to have no choices in any part of his life. He could still remember the longest month after he'd first lost his family and was brought into Robin's home to serve. He thought it'd happened because he'd done something wrong in life, angered God. For a while he too was very distraught. At least until he met Robin, and Locksley became more like a real home. But even it wasn't his. It was Robins. His parents had owned nothing of value there. Even the clothing he was given was provided by someone else.
In this new world he bought his own clothing. They weren't Robins old hand me downs that often fit wrong. He could actually have a choice, and that was brand new to him. He could have a hot shower every day, sometimes he did it twice just because it was available. He could have a glass of something to drink within arms reach without having to go to the lake or river and fetch it himself. And best of all he felt wanted. Even with the looming baby coming, they wanted him to stay. Had called him uncle. Robin was proud, and he was going to be an uncle.
They'd had a difficult life, fighting in the Holy Land, returning to find they'd been forced into the forest to live life as outlaws. Now for the first time they had comfort. It was true some times he missed the action but it was also nice not being afraid all the time. They had a place to call their own, and that helped his nerves. It wasn't a temporary residence like the complex had been, nor the inn as much as he loved it. It was home. Something he'd never experienced but now understood the phrase there's no place like it. Robin was within arms reach, and he'd become closer to Marian than he suspected he ever would. He was content.
He had every baking item he could possibly want, and despite telling Cas he needed time to do large amounts-he'd decided he wanted to again. Of course these weren't going to be quite as large as the baking of Thanksgiving dinner, but they were enough to fill the home with the smells chocolate and rum. He had a dark chocolate rum brownie recipe he was following very carefully.
