Who: Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor What: A long story in a very personal place When: Right after Lucifer pulled his River Song routine Where: The TARDIS Warnings: TBD-likely not much!
Lucifer was a jerk. But that was to be expected, wasn't it? She had all but expected it, considering what all they'd done to him recently. But making it quite so personal? Well, that still hit hard, even if she had been mostly prepared for it. Because it was true, wasn't it? Someday, no matter how long they were there, she'd likely lose Guy. And, with the way her luck worked, it'd be him that the Seal pulled back. It'd be her, once again left alone to mourn a divide she couldn't cross.
Sometimes she wondered why she even bothered to get close to people anymore.
The Ninth incarnation of the Doctor was somehow easier. She already knew she was going to lose him. She already had twice now. This was borrowed time she was dealing with and she was okay with that. She'd told him a lot. About being characters on a fictional television show, about his upcoming regenerations. She hadn't, however, told him how very in love she'd fallen with him. How she'd already had that little burst of feelings where he was concerned before he'd made the change, and then when he'd become that kind and compassionate man who'd loved her so completely... If she hadn't fallen in love with him, she'd have been insane.
And so she lost him. Three times now. And she couldn't tell him that. Not the man who'd plucked a bored shopgirl living her monotonous life away from it all. But he deserved the truth. All of it. Even if it killed her to say it.
So she waited by the library of the TARDIS, leaning against the wall, remembering several long, beautiful nights in that room. How many times they'd danced, locked away from the others. She had only just told Martha how she'd moved on. But having it thrust back in her face, first with the show and now Lucifer forcing it to the front of her memory, it made 'moving on' a relative term. Her love for Guy was true. But it didn't erase her past and never would.
