Stiles hadn't slept in three days. At least not for more than a couple of hours, total. It wasn't that Lydia's couch wasn't comfortable, because as couches went? It was pretty soft and cushy. It was that every time he closed his eyes, any number of terrible things began to invade his brain. He knew that his dad and Scott's mom and Allison's dad were okay -- he'd seen the show's season finale and everything was fine. Except he didn't feel right.
He remembered Deaton's warning -- that there would be consequences to the sacrificial ritual he'd done with the others to ensure the safety of their parents. And maybe thinking about everything that could go wrong with Lucifer and the apocalypse was just a natural consequence of being abducted from your home world by a magical seal and being dropped right in the midst of said apocalypse. Maybe it had nothing to do with the darkness that was supposedly gathering in his heart. Or maybe it was both. Whatever it was, he couldn't sleep and he was starting to wonder how long a person could stay awake with massive doses of coffee (which he really shouldn't drink given his already short attention span).
And then there was Lydia. Who'd apparently been having bad dreams, and now she'd had one bad enough that she couldn't go back to sleep. One about Jennifer Blake and Gerard and Kate Argent showing up and teaming up with Lucifer and coming after him and Allison and Scott. That made him nervous, too, considering Lydia's own penchant for being in tune with the supernatural even if she didn't understand how it worked. He didn't understand it either. But he was damn sure going to pay attention and be more cautious.
He wasn't sure that going for a walk at 1 in the morning in Lawrence was the safest idea, but if she was anywhere as on edge as he was, she needed the fresh air too. So he waited by the door in his jacket, shoes already on and ready to go.
