Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:caroline forbes, rebekah mikaelson

Who: Caroline and Rebekah
What: sister bonding time
When: Wednesday night
Where: Rebekah’s place
Warnings: TBD

It had been awhile since Caroline had seen Rebekah face-to-face, and while phonecalls, and network chats, and the rest were all well and good, Caroline wanted to actually see Rebekah. She understood why the other girl didn’t come around the house, why she no longer lived there, and hell, she supported Rebekah in her decision because Klaus definitely needed to learn he couldn’t dictate his siblings’ lives. And he definitely couldn’t go around attempting to kill Rebekah’s boyfriends anymore. Not without consequences. But that didn’t mean she didn’t miss having easier access to Rebekah.

Caroline may not have officially been living at the Mikaelson place before her death, but once Kol was exorcised and then they had needed to deal with his turning off the switch, she’d stayed over until he turned it back on. But like hell was she going to allow Klaus’ stubborness to keep her from quality time with his siblings--her siblings...that was still a weird concept that she didn’t try to analyze too closely. Even if she did think of each of them as family. Something she never would have thought possible not even a year back, but funny how things changed after really getting to know them.

She strode toward Rebekah’s hotel room door, carrying a bag full of various bottles of alcohol from the cellar, chick flicks, and a whole bunch of chocolate. Perfect ingredients for a girl’s night.

Caroline knocked on the door, waiting for Rebekah to answer as she sent off a quick text to let Klaus know she wouldn’t be coming home that night.

Rebekah really did want to go home. The hotel, as nice as it was, and of course utterly free because compulsion was fabulous like that, wasn't home. Wasn't her room, her bed, her rather extensive wardrobe. And while her kitten spent every night curled up on the bed with her, it wasn't the same.

But, she was being stubborn. As was her nature. It was also just time, time to stand up for herself and not let her idiotic brother dictate any more. All she wanted was an apology, was that so much to ask for?

Her main regret though was being away from Elijah and Caroline. Kol was different, Kol was staying with his demon boytoy and that was one interesting development, but Elijah and Caroline were at home, and Rebekah wanted to be with them. Gossiping, drinking, and all such things. So she jumped at the chance to spend some time with her sister.

And just when the hell had she come to think of Caroline as a sister? Only a few short months ago she had been bitter rivals with the other blonde, wanting to take her place as the queen of Mystic Falls, to be the popular one. Now Caroline was someone she loved and adored as family. Weird how that worked out.

She grinned as she opened the door, deftly catching Aphrodite before the kitten managed to sneak out, balancing her on one shoulder as she hugged Caroline with her other hand. "Come in!" Okay, so invitations not officially needed in the vampire sense at a hotel, but the sentiment was there. "So, are we continuing my education in chick flicks?"

She laughed at the kitten’s escape attempt, sliding into the room so Rebekah could stop any further escape attempts. “I thought we’d go with a more recent chick flick, Pitch Perfect,” Caroline informed the other girl, depositing her bag onto a chair.

“How are you doing? Need anything from...home?” Because as cushy as the hotel room was, she couldn’t see it being quite the same as sleeping in her own bed or using her own shower. Not that Caroline had ever gone on many vacations--it had pretty much been Ireland for her so far and a trip she didn’t even remember when she had been really little out of state somewhere with her parents. But she had missed her own apartment when she had been away after a few days, the familiarity of it all, knowing she didn’t need to put up signs to keep out housekeeping, even just knowing the sheets on her bed were hers alone had been something she had missed.

“I could probably bring you some more of your clothes.” Not that she really wanted to because that just made the stay seem even more permanent than it was supposed to be. Unfortunately Klaus was a stubborn asshole so who even knew how long this battle was going to last.

Rebekah hadn't even heard of that movie, but Caroline had good tastes in such things and so she merely smirked in reply, nudging the door closed again and letting Aphrodite down so the kitten could run free. Which she did, after happily rubbing around Caroline's ankles with a purr.

"I'm fine," she half smiled as she walked over to the large couch on the side of the room. "I mean, I do miss our wine cellar, but judging by the size of that bag, you've got that covered." The half smile became a grin for a moment before she shrugged.

"Really, if I want more clothes, I can just go out and get them and that's fine. I don't want to make you feel you need to act like some go-between." That was, genuinely, the last thing she wanted. Rebekah's fight with Nik was her own, and she was determined that Caroline, nor Elijah or Kol, felt stuck in the middle.

Caroline held up two bottles of white wine. “Like I’d come unprepared,” she replied, and bent down to pick up the kitten before making her way over to the couch. “And okay, I won’t bring you over any clothes. Though really, it gives me an excuse to come over and rub it in that I get to see you since your brother is still being his normal idiotic self.”

Which meant she was going to keep up with her annoying post-it notes with all of the quotes about families and reminders for him to call his siblings. She would keep on with her Thanksgiving plans even if Caroline knew it would probably end up blowing up in her face, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t at least try for them all to be together in the same room again. Maybe they would get at least an hour in before anyone tried to kill someone?

“Actually, you may want to check in on Elijah during the next week. I’m going to India to help out Florence and Freddie with Bo and that leaves Elijah alone with Klaus so….yeah?” Not that she thought Klaus would actually do anything aside from drive the older Original batty, but wasn’t that enough of a reason for a check-in or two?

"Ah, the latest in the long list of reasons why you're the best," Rebekah had to laugh as she leaned over to the table beside her, grabbing a couple of wine glasses already waiting there. "Oh, Niklaus will keep up this sulk for a while, I fully expect him to. Without his daggers around to make me fall in line, he'll go for sheer force of will."

Her tone was an attempt at airy, but in truth, Rebekah missed her brother sharply. All she wanted was for Klaus to understand that it wasn't okay to physically or emotionally beat his siblings into submission all the time. Was that really so much to ask?

"India?" Her eyes did light up at that idea. "That will be amazing, even with the babysitting, you have to find the time to explore a bit, try the food, see the culture." She made herself pause before she went off on too much of a tangent. "I'll check on Elijah though. Kol will too. Otherwise he'll probably be driven completely mad and run to Katherine constantly and yeah." Rebekah's nose wrinkled with a hint of disgust at the thought of her eldest brother's girlfriend.

Ah, Katherine. "I am trying really hard for Elijah to be accepting of Katherine...okay maybe its more like tolerant of Katherine, but its so damn hard." Caroline sank down onto the couch, letting Aphrodite curl up on her lap. "I think it was pretty big of me to invite her to Thanksgiving."

Caroline looked over at Rebekah then, pointing a finger at the girl as she narrowed her eyes. "Which don't think you can wiggle your way out of. None of you can. I already hired a caterer and did the place settings and the cards and everything. Don't make me have dinner alone with Klaus and his 'I told you so' look."

She knew it would probably end in disaster. There was no way it wouldn't with all of them in one room, but Caroline had to at least try and get them all together again.

Rebekah poured the wine, handing a glass to Caroline and tickling Aphrodite under the chin. Really, that kitten was so damn affectionate, especially with her and Caroline. "I think it was huge of you to invite her, and I get it, I'm trying too, I actually am, even if it doesn't look like it and..." She paused with a frown. "It's like she can't help herself, she just keeps getting into these situations and every time she drags Elijah down. I don't get why he can't just be over her by now." Five hundred years and he was still infatuated with the woman. Rebekah just did not get it.

The hand not holding a glass of wine was held up in mock surrender. "Hey, I'm not wiggling! I'm going to be there and I will even really really try to not let Nik provoke me into an argument." No promises on that score, her brother had a skill for getting under her skin and needling at her until she broke, knowing which words could hurt as much as a dagger through her heart or snapping her neck.

"It'll be okay. As long as we keep Stefan and Nik apart, and Nik and Katherine apart, we probably won't have any massacres over the turkey. Probably." She paused, trying to work out the logistics. "I don't know, shove Kol and the demon lover in the middle or something, they're new and distracting, possible entertainment for everyone."

Caroline pulled out her handy dandy seating chart for Thanksgiving dinner. "I figure this will work. Klaus will sit at the head of the table and Elijah can sit on the other side. I'll sit by Klaus, Katherine can sit by Elijah. You by me. Stefan on the other side of Elijah. Crowley on the other side of Klaus. And Kol can sit by Katherine. If she starts making eyes at Stefan then you can stab her with a fork and switch with him so he's by me and you're by Elijah. Still keeping him away from Klaus." Look Rebekah, the chart is even color coded to contain these options.

Hopefully Crowley wouldn't do anything to piss of Klaus between then and Thanksgiving or the whole seating arrangement was pretty much shot. "And if he tries to provoke you I'll kick him or something."

She picked up her drink, sighing as she took a long sip. "But yeah, anyway, how are you really doing? Because fine is a sucky answer and we both know it."

Fine was the answer you gave when you were usually anything but that emotion. Fine didn't really encompass a month long argument with a brother or moving out or any of the rest of the drama.

Rebekah stared at the chart. Blinked, and stared again. There was a pause before she smirked. "I've seen diplomatic dinners with less planning involved. You ever considered working for the UN?" It was impressive, and she could see the logic behind the planning, plus her being next to Caroline was a fun plan. But really, color coding?!

"And your kicks are the ones most likely to get him to shut up, so that's a plus." If any of the siblings kicked Nik, that was just asking for him to be goaded further.

Rebekah toyed with her own glass before she sipped too and half shrugged. "Pretty mixed, I guess. I do want to go home, I want my brother to get his head out of his damn ass and figure out what he did wrong. I want Kol to be happy, and Elijah and all that." And really, it was all draining on her, dragging her down and she wanted her family back together.

But at the same time? She couldn't help the tiny smile that appeared on her face. "Stefan told me he loves me."

Caroline had plenty to say about everything else Rebekah had told her, but as soon as those six words were said, anything else was completely forgotten. She probably looked like a fish for a second, her mouth opening and closing a few times as she tried to even formulate the words she wanted to say.

"Shut up!" she exclaimed, though she was smiling brightly at that. "No, wait. That's an expression, don't actually shut up." Sometimes she forgot that Rebekah had been in a box for nearly one hundred years and didn't know all of the nuances of the twenty-first century. "I need details. Like all of the details. From the beginning."

Because this was big, for both of them really, Stefan and Rebekah, and Caroline needed to know everything.

Rebekah couldn't help the way the smile grew on her face, both shy and joyful, actually making her look years younger. Even with the confusion at the 'shut up' expression, because really, that was one odd expression.

For a thousand years, she'd never had a close girl friend, and definitely not one she loved like a sister, and she decided she liked the feeling. A lot, actually. "Okay, well, the beginning part isn't exactly happy, because, shocker, this is us and when can anyone from our world not do things in a somewhat epic and yet angst-filled fashion?" Really, one day they would try to do things in an entirely happy way.

"It was before Stefan was bitten." When Caroline was dead, but she didn't need to mention that part. "And we were trying to keep Nik from murdering everyone ever and, well."

She pulled out her phone, before looking a little sheepish. "What, I saved the messages, don't judge me." And with that, she handed the phone to Caroline, knowing the conversation by heart, first the messages from Stefan.

» Listen
» I know how your brother is
» Especially when he wants me to be the Ripper
» So I want to say this now, while I still can, because I don't know if I'm really going to have to turn it off or not.
» I love you.
» Saying it in a text isn't the most romantic thing
» But if I'm not a monster at the end of this, I'll say it in person.

And then the replies from her.

» I love you too.
» And no matter what happens, what my brother makes you do, I am keeping you at the end of this.
» And telling you in person too.
» We're going to get through this.

So, yes, very dramatic. They were a Mikaelson and a Salvatore. Just one of them guaranteed drama, put two of them together and it amplified. "Yes, we've said it in person since." And not just while he was delirious from the werewolf venom. But in normal circumstances too, in this very hotel room, in fact. While Stefan wasn't there all the time, he did come over a lot, one of his shirts was even still on the bed from his last visit. Rebekah had slept in it and everything.
