"Of course you didn't." If he sounded like he was simply appeasing her, well, that was largely intentional. He didn't care if he got glared at for it. He was enjoying the moment too much. It was rare for the two of them, who argued so often and so passionately, to have such a moment of simple calm, and happiness. Though he wouldn't change the arguing in a heartbeat. One of the things he loved about her was that she was so willing to challenge him, when others often wouldn't. "I don't know what mauve is," he replied. "But I think I am glad you went with the blue."
He followed her from the room in silent agreement, because he was sure the food would taste better not surrounded by the smell of paint fumes. He stopped a few paces behind her when she leaned in the doorway to the left of the stairs. He could all but guess from the look on her face what she was thinking. Stepping up behind her, he slipped his arms around her to grasp loosely around her waist, his head by hers. They hadn't discussed colours for this particular room yet, though he didn't particularly mind the cream walls anyway. And if he thought about it, though he knew at heart he might prefer a daughter, in the end what mattered most was sharing a child with the woman he had his arms around right now.
Starting a family with her would be his greatest wish finally realised. And now that they were here, he was starting to think it might actually be possible.
