Caroline hugged him back, making sure to not use her full strength, but needing to hold onto him just as tightly as he was holding onto her. Having him there helped to ground her, reminded her that she was real, that somehow she had come back from death. Again. And hadn’t he been around the first time she had accomplished that trick, though, thankfully this time there were no urges to tear into his throat and bleed him dry.
“Hi, Matty,” she whispered, face pressed into his shoulder. They probably looked like quite a scene and no doubt people were staring at them. She could almost imagine the theories running through people’s minds.
“I’m so sorry.”
Even if it hadn’t been her fault she was still going to apologize for it. Caroline knew her death would have upset people, but especially Matt who had just lost Elena to the Seal.
