She stood frozen on the other side of the door for what seemed to stretch on forever, but was literally only a few moments. Shocked to see that he was alive, even more so that she couldn’t see a single scratch on him. Both were good things, very good things, but they were also very perplexing because people weren’t supposed to come back from the dead. It wasn’t something that happened. Not in her world at least. But it did happen in Lawrence and it was definitely a good thing.
Jane broke out of her trance and beamed at him. “Hello, Much.” She brushed red hair from her face, smile turning awkward at how her heart beat seemed to speed up in her chest. Just seeing him again was evoking feelings in her that she hadn’t thought possible again. Certainly there was relief, happiness, puzzlement. But there were also those little ones that started in the pit of her stomach and traveled all over, the ones she hadn’t felt since Bing.
“I brought you cookies.” She held out the plate of chocolate chip ones.
