Who: Hellboy and Xander What: Proving that Hellboy can lift a truck. And also probably drawing a crowd. When: About an hour after their conversation here. Where: Outside a bar. Rating: Probably low. Status: Incomplete
Hellboy wasn’t really pissed off. Sure, the guy had struck a nerve when he’d called him a thing, but it was hardly the worst thing that had ever happened to him. Truth was, this was just the excuse he needed to get out there like this. Maybe the people here would be more accepting than the people back home? One could only hope. Honestly, Hellboy was kind of surprised nobody had tried to dissuade them from this. He was just used to Manning, or one of his goons, throwing up the red flag whenever Hellboy suggested any kind of public outing.
He hadn't been entirely honest with Liz about why he was going out, mostly because he knew she'd try to stop him. He just hoped she didn't find out about this before he could explain it to her. He'd be on the couch for a month. HB managed to get to the bar ten minutes early. He’d told the guy he would be waiting, and he intended to do just that. Definitely didn’t want to give the kid any reason to disbelieve him. Not that he was entirely sure he would believe even after this, but it was worth a shot. Of course, Hellboy hadn’t really given this a whole lot of thought. When it came to being out in public, he rarely did. Hopefully, this wouldn’t be one of those occasions that left him saying things like ‘hindsight’ and ‘bad idea’.
He took up a place near the door of the bar, shoving his flesh-and-blood hand into the pocket of his coat. He definitely got a few odd looks. Not for the first time, he wished he’d managed to pick up a shirt, but it had been pretty low on his priority list the last couple days. He figured the Samaritan hanging from his hip didn’t really help the image, and he kept his coat over it for the most part. There was nothing he could do about the rest of it, so he just leaned back against the wall and surveyed the lot. There were in fact a couple trucks here, and even one SUV. He assumed one of those would be good enough for the guy. If Manning ever shows up, he’s gonna kill me for this...and the peace sign in the paper...and the news footage.
