Who: Caroline and Klaus What: a reunion When: shortly after leaving Kol Where: their park Warnings: Feels, also apparently hybrid-vampire sex so you know, be warned
She had run as fast as she could, using her vampire speed to take her through the city streets and all the way to the park where they had done her ‘Lessons in Caroline’. She was certain he would be there if he wasn’t at the Mikaelson place. Though if she was wrong, there were a few more places she would look, like the art museum, but for some reason Caroline didn’t think Klaus would want to be cooped up inside. Not to mention their time at the art museum had ended pretty badly, while their time at the park--though it had its rough patches--had ended rather well. He’d pushed her buttons, she had pushed his right on back, but there hadn’t been any threats made then, just a whole lot of questions she hadn’t been ready to answer or even think about at the time.
Caroline wasn’t sure what she was going to do if she couldn’t find him. She didn’t have her phone, she still didn’t have shoes on, and if it wasn’t for the chaos that was happening in the city she had a feeling people would be looking at her weirdly for not having a jacket either. But thankfully the park seemed to be deserted except for the lone man sitting on the park bench to her left.
Her breath caught in her throat as she stared at his back, unsure how she wanted to approach him. After all he thought she was dead and who knew what his thought process would be like considering he’d bitten Stefan, had Rebekah calling him out on being like his stepfather, and probably knew a whole slew of people wanted to somehow contain him. She didn’t think he would hurt her though; wonder what kind of trick someone was playing on him or possibly think she was a figment of his imagination, but no, he wouldn’t hurt her.
Not to mention time was of the essence. As far as she knew Stefan was running out of time and he couldn’t die. If Klaus let Stefan die then he was going to lose Rebekah in one of the worst possible ways, and if his sister became a demon he would lose Kol and Elijah, and then he really would be utterly alone, something Caroline knew frightened him to the very core. Why else would he dagger his siblings and tote around their damn coffins for like a thousand years? If he just wanted to punish them he could’ve daggered them or written them off, sent them away, something else. And she couldn’t handle the thought of him enduring more pain than he already had or inflicting more on those he did love because he was hurting. She wanted the cycle to stop. It needed to stop. The Mikaelsons finally had a chance to be a real family again and like hell was Caroline going to let something pesky like her death ruin the chances of that happening. Maybe it had started out as dating Klaus or being in a relationship with him because dating just did not seem to encompass at all what had been happening between them, but Caroline had come to care for each of his siblings in her own way, and she wanted them to be happy. All of them. Together. After one thousand years didn’t they deserve that much?
“I don’t know if I want to be pissed off at you right now or just hold you really tight and tell you to never let me go,” Caroline started, sitting down on the bench beside him. She didn’t look at him though, kept her gaze out on the park before them, unsure of how he would react to her presence. “Well, eventually let me go, because I don’t really need a kinda Klaus parasite attached to my hip or anything. It wouldn’t be all that comfortable. So funny thing--okay not really all that funny--but did you know the Seal apparently likes to bring people back from the dead if they die here? Because yeah, it does. See? This is why you go to the classes because you learn crap like this.”
Or had friends who told you about their own experiences so you could draw on them when it happened to you. Same thing. Though maybe it wasn’t the best thing to know because then you might end up waiting for a friend to be resurrected who never would be and that had to hurt so much more in the long run. To cling to that flicker of hope only to have it snuffed out while watching others happily reunited.
“I think I’m going to go with angry if you’re seriously going to let Stefan die.”
