The second he felt the ground shake beneath him, Remus was on the defensive. Years of war were now ingrained into him and he reacted instinctively, hand on his wand and on his feet, the book he'd been reading dropping to his lap. Nothing so 'normal' as a book on his best friends' child. Simply a book on the workings of modern government. So it certainly didn't matter what page he'd been on and he didn't give it a second glance as it fell to the floor.
His second reaction, on realising he wasn't in any immediate danger, was to take off looking for Dora. He hadn't been prepared for the second wave that hit the building, throwing him into a wall and causing most of his flat to come apart. It didn't matter. Now he was determined. His girlfriend was out there somewhere, the woman he loved, and he was going to make sure she was all right.
The halls were filled with smoke, he heard yelling, but he had a one track mind. Just as soon as she was safe in his arms, he'd go help others. They'd need to reinforce the building or it could collapse with all of them inside. But first, the one person who truly loved him despite everything.
He heard her from inside of her flat, and he felt a wave of panic. There was fear in her voice, but it was weak. And that scared him the most. "I'm coming," he called to her, pulling out his wand and breaking the lock on the door. He'd have kicked the damned thing in if he had to.
The site he was met with, though... Somehow, he'd always assumed he'd be the one to die first. Probably because he was thirteen years older than her. Seeing her so helpless was not comforting at all. In the slightest. "Dora..." No, she needed him to be strong. And he'd need all the magic he could manage to get the furniture off of her. "Wingardium leviosa."
It was one of the world's easiest spells. They taught it to first years. But this was no feather or piece of parchment he was lifting and it took more time and effort than he'd have liked under the circumstances. But she was free to get out from underneath...if she could. If he had to help...well. He didn't know if he could maintain the spell and get her to safety as well. If that was the case, they could be in some serious trouble. Because he couldn't, wouldn't let that couch fall back on her.
