Katherine didn't know what was going through his mind, how close to that proverbial and maybe literal ledge he really was, but she knew that he didn't like this situation any more than she did. She could see that written plainly across his face when she dared peek up and steal a glance. She couldn't meet his eyes, though, and she wondered when that awkwardness would go away. Because it would, she was fairly certain, it would eventually fade and this would become some kind of routine. A sick, twisted, quiet little routine that no one could know about. Quiet things hidden behind closed doors. It made her stomach turn to think of herself being used like this. She was the manipulator, never the manipulated. But now...
"I'll...be ready." The phrase, given the context, was awkward. This breech of trust, of faith, of friendship passing into...something else entirely, she wasn't sure what to make of it. She wasn't even sure she wated to make anything of it at all. Keep it strictly business when they met like this. The things He had said...that threat to turn her into something like him... that was more than enough to keep her at bay. For now.
There was another moment of that awkward silence that continued to find itself surrounding them before Katherine finally said, "You should...probably go. Regina probably won't be long." She had no idea if that was true, sometimes when her friend left to visit her boyfriend she was gone for a few hours, other times she stayed overnight. But it was a good excuse to get him to leave and maybe she could have some time to process all of this before Regina really did get home.
