Her eyes widened slightly as she took in his appearance. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but he definitely didn't look quite...right. But what was different? She wasn't sure. He was shaken. But from what? She had so many questions, but she supposed they would just have to wait until he was ready to answer her initial question. One thing at a time, she reminded herself. That was all she had to do, take this all one step at a time.
She stepped back as he stepped inside, shutting the door behind him, turning to watch him as he spoke. "Control is hard." she agreed with a slight nod, staring at him curiously as he went about fixing a picture frame. Hal and his order. In a way, she missed it. She missed living with the three of them. But she didn't have a place in their house now. She was liability now.
Her head cocked slightly to the side as he went on. "No," she shook her head, "Hal, you've been fine. Maybe you've had some stumbles, but you've picked back up and you've worked through it. You don't need it," she knew reasoning with him right now, in a state like this, it would be a challenge. Especially with her. Why had he come to her of all people? Why not Mitchell? Alex? Someone more likely to keep him grounded?
"You've told me before...that you might try to bargain like his, Hal. And you told me no matter how much you beg and plead and threaten, not to let it happen." Of course, that had been a different time. A time when she could have stood a chance of holding her own against him. She didn't have that on her side now. "Owe you? Maybe. But not this, Hal." she shook her head again. "Not this."
