There was an empty hospital room that seemed okay enough to use. It was far from subtle, even for them. This was a public location. Any nurse, doctor, patient, or visitor could intrude upon them while he was drinking blood from her. How would that look to them? Probably horrific. They would panic. Cause a scene. Get them in trouble. That wasn't what Sam wanted when his brother was so close by, but he couldn't stand to wait any longer. He needed to drink. It would make him more calm and relaxed. Sam would be able to focus on Dean's recovery in a far more level state. He had to drink. It was just that simple. Yet, when they reached the room and the door was sealed behind them, Ruby didn't pull out her knife and slice herself open as he expected she would. Instead, she began to speak. More like ramble, really.
The first thing that she said was that he couldn't stop Lilith. Sam opened his mouth right then and there to ask if she was joking around, but he didn't get a chance to say anything. No, Ruby had something to say and she seemed damn well determined to say it. There was no room for Sam to intrude. Not to mention Sam didn't think that he'd be able to do so anyway. Every word that came out of her mouth sent a shock of...something through him. Skepticism, uncertainty, anger, and the worst of all the former: heartache. Something cold and bitter wrapped itself around his heart and squeezed at it mockingly, enjoying every single second of the sudden feeling that stabbed it's way through his chest. What the hell was this? Who had put Ruby up to this? Where the fuck was Ashton Kutcher?
Sam stared at her silently. He didn't say anything to her at first - how could he when he felt like his entire world had been flipped upside down, shot at, and trampled on? The victory high that he had gathered from earlier was gone. In fact, everything that he felt was gone. It was like nothing mattered anymore. Why keep fighting? Why care? Why bother existing at all? Ruby was standing in front of him, declaring that everything that he'd had with her, the one thing that had kept him going every single day since she had found him after Dean's death was nothing more than a lie.
"You were working with him." Sam didn't move. His hands had curled into fists at his sides, but he was rooted to the ground. If he went near her now, he didn't know what he'd do. "All this time. Knowing how much I hated him. Knowing what he did to me and my family. And all this time, you never said one word about how you were - you...." He raked a hand through his hair, finally finding it in him to turn away from Ruby entirely. Something was burning inside of him. Just under the surface. What was that? "Lilith is the final seal. Lilith. And you..." Her. Ruby. The demon that he had fallen in love with. The one that he had been so sure was different from all the rest. Dean had been right all along, hadn't he? No. No.
Sam looked back at her, mouth pressed into a thin line. "Tell me this is a joke. Right now. Stand up straight, look me in the eye, and tell me you're just fucking with me."
