"You just have to," he said with a slight shrug. "Most people in this town have no idea what's going on. They're oblivious, either by choice or because they're real idiots. There are a lot of people here who shouldn't exist, and yet we do anyway." If she asked what he meant he would explain about the fictional characters thimg, but only if she asked.
He leaned back in the booth a bit. "If your family is here and has been here for a while then you probably won't need to do much convincing to take any of the classes. It's worth taking them anyway because there's a lot about the dangers here you should know." He took another sip of his coffee. "Like demon possession. If your family doesn't show up I'll take you to the complex and get you set up there, get you an amulet to wear. If they are, make sure they get one and bring it with them. Put it on and don't ever take it off."
