It wasn't supposed to be like this. Andromeda had known when she told her family that she was not only seeing a muggle born wizard, but engaged to one, that everything would change. Had known they would react in anger. Burning herself off the tapestry when it was obvious that she was going to be disowned regardless had hurt, but she had thought that would be the end of it. Of course she had hoped her family would come around. Regulus. Narcissa, Bellatrix.... Sirius already was supportive, in all his youth. He hadn't judged her, though that could just be because he was in Gryffindor and was okay with such things. Even so, a part of Andromeda had always hoped that more of her family would come around after the shock wore off.

Perhaps she should have been more careful. Perhaps she should have expected retaliation. News spread quickly within the Pureblood circuit. Especially when one was of the House of Black, so prestigious. And now so shamed by one foolish daughter who got it into her head to fraternize with mudbloods. The fact that the Dark Lord had taken power in 1970 should have been warning enough. Things weren't safe, yet Andromeda had always been stubborn in her ability to take care of herself.

The fact her internship had run late was part of the issue. Having been about to apparate home, the young woman instead found herself cornered. She had fought back but the masked figure before her was extremely skilled in a duel and filled with hatred and anger. Hatred and anger she felt focused on herself as she was subjected to the Cruciatus curse. She didn't even know how long. Just that she refused to scream. To break. She wouldn't let them have that power over her. No matter what they tried, no matter how much it hurt, she refused to balk and scream.

After what felt an eternity, Andromeda was left alone. Struggling weakly, she pushed herself up and grasped her wand, forcing herself up only to sway and her vision blur before she blinked it away and found herself suddenly in a park and very much not in London.

"Come on, Dora, it's time to wash up for dinner." Ted Tonks had started his day in the usual way, ending with picking up Nymphadora from the Weasleys' home before dragging her to the park for part of the afternoon. It had been an exhausting day, with the craziness at the Prophet, and the "new information" about the Potters' death. Working in the news industry was setting his teeth on edge, and Ted just wanted to get home to Andi and fall asleep.

Dora had just gone into the house before him, leaving Ted to sneak up behind Andromeda at the stove, wrapping his arms around her waist gently and placing a soft kiss on her temple. "Good day, love?"

He never got the answer to that particular question, though, as he felt a vague sense of wooziness before realizing he wasn't in his wife's kitchen any longer. No, he was somewhere outdoors, and in a place entirely foreign to him. Ted reached for his wand automatically, but froze when he saw a small figure attempting to stand in front of him. He was the type of person that would never dream of leaving someone defenseless, so while wary, Ted approached the person, recoiling slightly as it dawned on him that he knew exactly who this person was.

"Andromeda?" He knelt down to push his arm under hers in order to support her weight and took a good look at her. She was much too young, the familiar wrinkles between her eyebrows wasn't present and with a glance at her hand, he noted the lack of her wedding band. "Dromeda, what happened to you?"

How had Ted gotten to... wherever it was she was? Because her current theory at the moment was accidental apparition from pain. Severe amount of pain that clouded her judgement and mind and Merlin, she just hurt. It wasn't that she wasn't relieved her fiancee was there, she was. She was just overwhelmed by not being where she should be following the attack.

"Cornered... they wore a mask, but I think..."

It was then she was able to focus a bit more on the situation at hand. Or more importantly, the fact that while it was indeed Ted helping her to straighten up and stand (which were both very good things in her book), he was also older than he had been that morning she had left for her internship.

".....Is this a hallucination? I know that..." Gasping as she moved slightly and the pain once again overtook her, Andromeda just slumped against the now older Ted, closing her eyes tightly. She was dizzy. There were no physical marks of the attack, of course not. But every fiber of her being continued to scream and burn. But she was also determined to overcome it. She had known the risks, but she had still taken them because she loved Ted that much. So focus. She needed to focus.

"First year. Potions.... you mentioned....oh what was it..."

Because the easiest thing to think about, to counter this was to think of a good memory. It was at least her running theory, given she'd never actually been tortured before. She knew statistics. Both from the world of magic as well as muggles, how the mind responds to torture and pain. The idea of good over powering the bad. So naturally she went with the first time she and Ted really had spoken to one another.
