Caroline must have walked up to the front door of the Mikaelson house and away from it ten times. She was pretty sure any neighbors that had caught sight of her were probably under the impression that she was a crazy person. Which, honestly, at that point, she couldn’t even dispute. She certainly felt as though she was losing her mind. Otherwise why else would she willingly be coming over again and not doing the smart thing which was to avoid Klaus as much as possible and never willingly talk to him again? She had to have lost her mind, right?
On some level he had always intrigued her--though for most of that time it was intrigue mixed with so much hate for how he hurt everyone she loved and kept on making their lives hell. And then he’d saved her life and she’d somehow been thrust into the role of distractor and everything she knew about the world had been turned around on its axis. She’d found herself less hating and more intrigued as she saw more glimpses into the man that was Klaus, but every time she saw a new piece to him, it was as though something happened to remind her exactly what he was capable of doing. And that new information was pushed aside, her focus on all of the bad and none of the good.
Except, that wasn’t happening in Lawrence. She kept seeing the good parts and while, sure, he’d been an arrogant bastard on Rose’s welcome post, but even that wasn’t enough to thrust her back into focusing on the bad. Which was bad. Very bad. She needed to remember to heed Stefan’s advice and not let Klaus ever have the upper hand. Somehow.
Caroline could do this. “It’s just seeing horses,” she muttered to herself, and walked to the door one more time, steeling herself as she finally knocked.
