Wordlessly, Matt reached over and laid a hand on her shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. "And we'll do that," he assured her. "We'll spend time with her and drag her out of the house and be there if and when she wants to talk about anything." He popped another Cheeze-It into his mouth, chewing it with a thoughtful expression. "And that sounds like a good idea. Like an Elena Gilbert safety next." He offered her a wan smile.
Then he considered her next question. How was he doing? He was relieved that he didn't have to worry about a house payment and an ever-accumulating stack of bills while he was still struggling through high school. He was relieved that he'd managed to pass high school, and that though he'd seriously considered re-doing his senior year, he finally felt good enough about it that he was planning to take college classes in the fall with her and Elena.
"I'm okay," Matt answered honestly. "I mean, I'm worried about Elena, and you and Jeremy and the Originals and Katherine being here, but...I feel okay. I've got my sister back, and yeah, no job yet, but I'll find one." He watched her closely for a moment. "Now what about you? How are you doing?"
