Caroline plopped herself down onto the couch, placing her goods down on the coffee table as she curled up in the corner. It was almost like old times, back before she’d ever been turned and just chilling on the bed, surrounded by snacks. Crazy how that seemed like forever ago when it hadn’t even been two years. Would she remember it in a lifetime or four? Looking over at Matt, she really hoped she would. For all the bad in their lives, she wanted to hold onto the good more than anything.
“Nah, I’m good. I’ll wait until we get the real stuff back.” Because caffeine-free anything just wasn’t worth it. She nodded along to his assessment of Vicki, and wondered what had been the cause of that. Because while hunting bunnies would help some, she doubted that it would be able to curb the craving all that much. Though maybe she was underestimating his sister and her own tutelage and it had helped more than she knew. Couldn’t hurt to look on the brightside, right?
She opened the box and tore open the bag, plopping a few Cheeze-Its in her mouth and wondering exactly how to go about phrasing everything that was on her mind. “So how are you? Did you find a job yet? I think you were looking, right?” She was pretty sure he had been. “Maybe you could bartend at Lexi and Lee’s. I think Rebekah works there too.” Maybe? “Can you believe they just gave us these rooms for free and don’t expect us to pay anything for them? It’s crazy. Nice, don’t get me wrong, but still. Kind of crazy. I’m worried about Elena.”
