Just as she had when Katherine had made her decision to work on redeeming herself, Elena planned to keep an eye on things. Because she was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Katherine had done it for herself (which, okay, was her general motivation for anything) and had sought out help, support, spoken to others when she didn't think she could so that she would stay on the course. Klaus? He was using Caroline as his only excuse and because of that, Elena didn't believe he truly meant it. Love was powerful, but doing things for someone else and just them? It would fall apart. It was why Damon's road to redemption of sorts was easier to accept. Not just because he was a friend and had been there for her through Mystic Falls and Lawrence, but when she had shown up, she still hadn't been able to trust him because he had killed Jeremy. But he had been working on it since before she had even shown up. It had been his decision, not because someone batted their eyes at him.
Still, all they could do was watch and wait and be there when everything blew up because that was what Klaus did. And when that day came, Elena worried. Because it wasn't just those from Mystic Falls who would pick up the fight. It would be Lawrence in general. And that would unleash Kol and Elijah and Rebekah. And it would be bad.
"Well, the fact that we make it to graduation at all is sort of a miracle." And it was. With everything that went on in Mystic Falls, Elena was surprised the school hadn't gone up in flames by the time they were supposed to graduate, "And you still did. Despite everything. So don't knock it." Because Elena knew Matt's situation, she always had. Everything he did in the midst of all the crazy and managing to graduate, poor grades or not. It said a lot.
"Yep. And it was interesting. I don't know, she seemed off her game. But she had also newly arrived and wasn't used to working with two other people, so there were some communication mishaps. But we came out of it alive." Between Meg with her bauble wish, Elena with hers and Buffy with her natural... Buffy-ness, it was a good mash up, even if there had been a moment of concern because of it. "And good, because I can so do that." And it wouldn't go against the rest order she had from Anatoly.
Taking another bite of pizza, Elena nodded.
"That's the important thing. Realizing she does have those options. The first thing though is settling in and getting used to the crazy, the different rules from home. It took me a while to decide to go back to school. Partially because there was random crazy happening, on top of figuring this place out. But she knows the options are there and that's the first step."
