"She thinks she's better then, because she does it for her friends. But you're right, at the core, it's all the same," he agreed with a slight nod. "She's manipulative all the same." Kol shook his head, "That's the thing, isn't it? We're the bad ones because, what, we're older? Scarier? I hate the double edged sword on all that. Their lot's not different than us. Doing what they have to, to protect their loved ones." Kol agreed with his sister on that point stronger than any other common agreement they had. The hypocrisy that was nearly everyone in Mystic Falls was beyond ridiculous. Double standards, he hated them.
Kol shook his head, "Still, handling yourself or not, he shouldn't pick anyone over you. Over any of us. But he doesn't see the issue in it, does he?" he asked, looking over at her again. He didn't pretend to understand why Nik did the things he did. He only knew that his brother always had a plan and he always carried it out, regardless of what it might mean for anyone else involved.
His fingers relaxed when her hand touched his. Something about the contact made him relax a bit. But only a bit. "I don't know." he admitted, "It's all a matter of time, I suppose." Sometimes, he really hated the way this family was. He loved his siblings, there was no doubt, no question about that, but how much could they really take from each other before everything was broken beyond repair?
