"Unless you were in fact insane then any explanation you give would be attributed to your delusions" Irina tossed back at him when he spoke. Not paying his follow up statement much attention at all. Dangerous. Her entire life’s work was dangerous. If she worried about the dangers of a mission that could lead to mistakes. And mistakes were something that she just couldn’t afford. Not when the stakes were as high as they usually were; life or death.
At the mention of vampires and demons, Irina merely arched her brow. She had received her masters in english literature and had taught the subject at UCLA in what seemed like a lifetime ago. Her love of the subject had been one thing not fabricated by the KGB but in fact something that they had just nurtured. So she was no stranger to the topic of vampires and demons. Irina had read about them a time or two despite loving Shakespeare above all others. But never once had she encountered someone who outright claimed to be a vampire. Before she even had time to comment on his delusion she took note of how his features had changed. It wasn’t until after she’d fired at his feet that she had recalled her “promise” to not shoot. Then again she had only promised with no intention of following through. And in reality she hadn’t actually shot him but the ground near his feet. From what little she recalled in literature, Irina knew that he could have killed her all ready if he pleased. It was truthfully one of two things keeping her from raising her rifle and emptying what bullets remained. The other merely being that he was a vampire and the bullets she would have fired were not wooden. Losing the one weapon that she could use to defend herself on a target that would hardly be affected was essentially pointless.
Nevertheless with an authoritative sternness in her voice, Irina said, “Don’t come any closer.” He’d been correct in that he could prove to her what he said was truth. Vampires certainly did not exist in the world she recalled. So whatever this was, may not be an endgame of her sisters. Though her innate stubbornness refused to give in and full heartedly believe it. There could be a logical reason for why this man suddenly had fangs. Genetic manipulation of some kind. He could have been led to believe that he was in fact a vampire.
