Damon wrinkled his eyebrows, at first not sure what she meant, but he stopped everything and just took a moment to take in every single detail. Slowly, it dawned on him. Katherine had a heartbeat. He eyed her carefully. It was Katherine. Everything about her said Katherine, but she was somehow human again. Damon scolded himself for not having seen it right away. He’d been too caught up in her return to catch the vital detail.
“Your heart... You’re human?” There had to be a story behind it, but he wasn’t sure if he should ask for it. It didn’t seem like she was happy about the change and he didn’t want to dredge up negative feelings. He remembered talk of the immortal Silas and the cure that was kept with him. Somehow Katherine must have taken it, though he couldn’t imagine her doing it of her free will. His imagination went crazy with possibilities, but he managed to keep his mouth shut and lock those inquiries away.
