Oh god, how she ached for him to be in Lawrence and staring at Klaus as he said his little speech, she finally began to wonder just how selfish it was of her to want him around. She questioned her motives for it, she questioned a lot of things at the moment, but not her love for that boy. No matter the mess of emotions that were whirling inside of her because of the conversation with Klaus.
Caroline yanked her hand out of his grip as fast as she could, holding it to her chest as though it’d been burned. She whirled around on the balls of her feet and hurriedly walked away the other way, confident he wouldn’t follow her now. He’d gotten what he wanted from her, more than she’d even known she had to give and all it had done was made a convoluted mess of her mind. There would be time to analyze it all later, to figure out exactly what she’d done and said and what it all meant, but for now Caroline knew she needed to put as much distance as possible between herself and Klaus.
