There was a lot going through Elena's mind. Then again, there was always a lot going through Elena's mind. It had been a year tomorrow since Damon had been strapped the semtex. Since everything she had worked so hard to maintain started crumbling one piece at a time. The cracks had been small but as the months had gone on, they got worse. Every lie she had told herself, every claim at being fine. It had all been a front. A front she had been working on again despite knowing that was what had led her to the bridge back in March. Four months. It had been four months since she had tried to kill herself. Four months since the weight and guilt of everything crushed her with the reminders thrown at her from Maleficent. And she hadn't even known about anything post dying. Or post turning into a vampire.

In the month that Jenna and Stefan had been there, Elena had been grasping desperately to the fact her aunt was alive. That she hadn't been killed by Klaus yet. She had grasped and clung to that fact. And no one from Mystic Falls wanted to be the one to break it to her that she had died. A year after the death of the Gilberts. Because everything and one Elena touched would end up dead or destroyed. It had been stupid to ask Stefan what had happened. And even though she hadn't spoken to him in nearly a month, his words still haunted her. Jeremy dead. A cure. Because poor Elena couldn't handle being a vampire. That she chose Damon. Yet that was the least of her concerns, her love life. Her brother was going to die. Because of her. It had hurt so much, that she hadn't paid much attention to the rest until Caroline's drunken post and she knew that while Stefan had admitted to her that she'd been a project, Caroline also thought she was broken. Or would be.

Perhaps the rushing head first into a fight with a demon should have been a warning to herself. That she wasn't caring anymore about her own personal well being. Because if she was just a possession to those she trusted, to be won or lost, to be broken and 'fixed', what did it matter? The potential threat of someone wanting to be a hybrid had made it worse. Had made the fact that she was a blood bag come back to the forefront of her mind. Would she have to fight to survive? Would she have to worry about her loved ones? Could she really deny a kid the chance to not feel that pain? And then Rebekah's comment to Matt. How they were alike because they had their siblings who were dead and no one else could understand. But she did. Elena understood so well. Because she had that with her aunt. Her aunt who a potential future her would name a daughter after. Her aunt who had died so bravely to try and save her. To give her an escape from the sacrifice.

Initially planning to go study in Anakin's room, Elena paused. She had noticed it here and there, ignored it because it hurt too much to make the correlation between how Stefan was acting about her and how Anakin still reacted to Tahiri and Jacen. It led to questions, questions Elena didn't have the energy to even consider at the moment. Instead, the brunette headed to her aunt's room and knocked, not even knowing just what it was she was planning to do until the words came out of her mouth.

"Aunt Jenna, can we talk?"

The truth always found a way of coming out in Lawrence and often in the most painful way possible. It had been why she had pushed Stefan so much. To avoid that. And somehow, Jenna would find out. Alaric could show up. A random Seal thing could happen. Jenna deserved to know the truth from someone she knew and trusted and Elena had to just stop holding onto the past with her because the rest hurt too much. So she would save Jeremy this conversation and break her aunt's heart all over again. Wasn't that what she did anyway?

While it was nice of Elphaba to welcome Jenna into her house (or, actually, Elena had welcomed her for Elphaba, but that was neither here nor there), it didn't sit well with Jenna to be leaning on her hospitality quite so much. It was one thing if she was contributing more than just making sure the bathrooms stayed clean and another if she was sitting here like a lump. Doing nothing. Pre-guardianship Jenna would have sat and done nothing and not felt a single thing about it, but she wasn't that person anymore. So, on a borrowed computer, Jenna was trolling craigslist, looking for a job that didn't involve taking her clothes off. Not that she was against that, for some people it was a fantastic living, but she didn't have the goodies for it.

When Elena knocked on her door, however, she was happy to put the computer aside. She was worried about her neice, worried about the haunted look in her eyes, about the way she spent way too much time in the kitchen (really, no one needs six dozen cookies. ever.) and worried about the way she'd come home the other night- bruised and battered. But Jenna didn't push, not for answers, not for anything. Elena and Jeremy would always be kids to her, but they were adults and had been from the moment their parents had died. If they wanted to talk to her, they knew where she was and that she would listen without judgement. At least, she hoped they knew that.

"Sure thing, kiddo," Jenna said, making a semi-clean space on the bed for Elena to sit. "Come on it."

It shouldn't be this hard. Then again, after the way Jenna had found out about everything back home, after the consequences of that (Seriously, she died soon after and it still left a hole in her heart), well Elena worried. Worried for everyone. Worried for herself. She didn't think much of the demon attack. After all, she'd gone to camp, she'd done the classes. She could take care of herself, especially with the bauble wishes from the past two Christmases. But she knew how those who knew her might look at it. And especially those who had been around four months previous.

Smiling faintly because Jenna would always be more the older sister to her than anything, Elena made her way into the room and closed the door before making her way to the bed and sitting on it as well. Okay. She could do this. It had to be this way. They had always wanted to protect her from the crazy, and unlike most people, their lives weren't on television. No fans to spoil things, no websites or gifs or any of that. But that didn't mean they could keep the truth forever. Jeremy had tried with Elena and she found out from a vengeful ghost thanks to Death showing up. No, no matter how hard and painful this would be, it was for the best. It had to be.

Tugging absently on her sling to get it situated better, the nineteen year old chewed on her lower lip for a minute, trying to figure out the best way to word this. Straight out info dump would be too much. But how to lead into it?

"You know how we tried to protect you from the crazy back home? How we thought it was for the best even though it meant lying and hiding?"

That was one way. Okay, she could do this. Taking a deep breath, Elena continued.

"I haven't told you everything. I mean, you know everything up until you were here.... but there's more.. from after. Bad things... and Lawrence has a really bad habit of making it come up in really bad ways and I just.. can't keep trying to hold onto the past when I know how this place is..."

God she was afraid. Because in the end, the thing that broke Elena, that made her afraid, was dealing with her feelings. Of telling someone something and hurting them. But Jenna wasn't blind, she'd see the same comments Elena saw on the boards. The ones that had pushed her for more information than she was ready to process.

Jenna nodded as Elena spoke, sitting back just a tiny bit, in case space was what the younger girl thought she needed. As much as Jenna hated being lied to and coddled, she was able to understand at least why Elena had felt the need to keep certain things quiet. And, once she started to think about it, it became obvious.

Something bad happened. Something bad happened to her and there was a good chance that she didn't make it through. It would explain why everyone seemed so surprised to see her when she'd shown up, why Elena had clung to her that first night. Things were starting, ever so slightly, to click into place. And that was a good thing because, frankly, Jenna needed to be prepared to hear whatever it was that Elena had to tell her without freaking out about it. Or, at the very least, not freaking out about it until after Elena was gone.

"Okay," Jenna said slowly, drawing her arms and legs in to sit Indian-style on the bed. "So, why don't you start with the main things that I probably need to know about and we'll go from there?" Seemed like a solid plan to her, at least.

Okay, Jenna seemed calm. She didn't seem like it was going to completely destroy her but that was because she didn't know. She might have an idea. She might know the way things tended to go in Mystic Falls in general now that she knew the truth about vampires and everything but it was still so much more involved than that and Elena still was worried but she also knew she had to get it out and just.... let Jenna know. Because the truth was supposed to set you free and Jenna didn't deserve any more surprises at the door.

Nodding some, Elena folded her hair behind her ear and contemplated how to deal with the main things. Because there was so much that went wrong from that point.

"Klaus went through with the Sacrifice.... and you were part of it." Taking a breath, Elena closed her eyes to settle herself. That was the main thing. "The reason I survived was Uncle John... he had Bonnie do a spell that gave me his life so that I wouldn't be a vampire... after that, it turned out my blood is what stabilizes the hybrids...."

Because given the random times it had come up out of filters, Jenna needed to know there was a potential threat. Or a potential chance that everyone would look to Elena to save someone from the pain and hand over her blood if they went that route.

"Um... god, the Originals, Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah and Kol... their mother was set on killing them, restoring the balance. Ric... the ring splintered his personality and then she made him into an Original vampire as well, bent on hunting down her children and killing them, and thus killing their bloodlines. She bound his life to mine, so when I died he would die."

Trying not to cry, Elena looked down and wiped at her eyes. More death on her hands, just by association.

"To save her family, Rebekah showed up, and Matt and I went off the bridge... but apparently I had vampire blood in my system but no one knew... I told Stefan to save Matt first and in that time, I died... and became a vampire... Um, and Jer..." That was when her voice finally broke. Because the last of her family she had left at that point, he would die. Because of her. For something she didn't understand.
