He nodded, but he stayed silent on that topic. He'd probably said more than enough, really. It would be her responsibility to follow up with Dawn on that later.
"I still don't think moving away from here's really gonna solve anything for you." He admitted with a slight shake of his head. "Just sounds like running to me." He took another drag off his cigarette, casting a sideways glance at her. "You could start over here. Won't be as easy now, given...everything," he knew she would know what that meant, regardless of his lack of specificity. "But you could, you know. You could do anything you wanted, Buffy, that's what I was trying to get you to understand before. You could put the stake away if you wanted, live a normal life. Or you could take the hunting classes, and the camp, still do your Slayer thing, just...adjust to the world you're in. You could do anything you wanted." He felt the need to repeat that last line, an attempt to impress it on her somehow.
The look she gave him was enough to tell him he'd assumed wrong. She hadn't meant him. What he said could still be applied for anyone else, but he'd made it too personal, made it awkward. He kicked himself for it mentally, but since she hadn't commented on it any more, he decided to let it lie.
Spike picked up his pace when she did, but when she didn't say anything on that last bit, he was at a bit of a loss of what else to say. So instead, he just took the last drag from his cigarette before tossing the remains to the ground and walked on with her in silence.
