Who: Clary & Open!
What: Homework!
When: After the apartments school gets out on Wednesday
Where: Main kitchen on the first floor
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete

The school in the apartments was turning out to not be that bad. This was day three, and while it was the Institute that she was supposed to be going to, Clary was pretty sure she deserved points for at least finding out about finishing her education. Her mother would have been pleased, at any rate, if she was here. Class had just ended and she had assignments to do. Nothing she knew she'd struggle to much with, but she'd have to put out an effort.

When the door opened, Clary walked a short distance down the hallway and into the large kitchen on the floor. There were a few things here that were a free for all for those who lived here. Setting her books on the table she went about turning of the coffe machine pulling some cookies out onto the plate. While the coffee was brewing she sat down at the table and opened her books.

Looking down at her Chemistry assignment, for a moment, she thought she was going to go crosseyed. Well, maybe she would have to put some serious work into this. Why couldn't this be history?

Star was whistling quietly as she backed into the kitchen, arms laden with a pair of grocery bags, both full mostly of produce. Her head was bobbing along with whatever song she was listening to with one earphone, whatever she was whistling along to.

She turned around, starting just slightly upon finding someone else there, but she smiled a moment later, setting the bags down on the counter and waving a greeting, popping her one earphone out and winding the cord, stuffing it in her pocket as she went about unpacking the bags, fruit going in a bowl on the table, veggies going in the fridge.

Glancing up when someone walked in, Clary's eyes flicked back and forth between the girl and her papers. She'd seen this girl in the building before but had never had any interaction with her. Smiling just slightly she waved back awkwardly. "Hey." she muttered, before glancing back at the Chemistry. There was only four questions, but they were long questions with equations, and had only managed to get though part of it, and was mostly sure she hadn't done any of it right.

Sighing, Clary looked back up at the girl. She didn't know what her name was, or anything. "We've never met." she wasn't usually the one to introduce heself first, but she was in another world, so might as well go for a different approach. "I'm Clary." she said lamely, she knew she sucked at making friends, especially with girls.

Star smiled, she wasn't usually the one making introductions either, given as how she didn't talk. She smiled in reply, closing the fridge and snapping the pen off the magnetic whiteboard there, writing out: I'm Star, it's nice to meet you. Even with marker her handwriting was a clear block print.

Under this she added: What are you reading? And then, just in case, I can hear just fine, I don't talk, but the sides still work

At first she didn't think the girl was going to answer, then she watched her write on the fridge. Clary automatically assume she was deaf. Only when she saw the rest of the note did her brows furrow in slight confusion. She could hear, but she couldn't talk. An accident maybe, though what it might be she wasn't sure.

"Chemistry." she said with a slight scowl. "I'm in the school here, I've got some questions to answer." though she was pretty sure that any answer she put down was going to be wrong. Having Romana as a teacher was interesting. One moment she was talking about the American Civil War and then somehow jumped to a similar war that happened on another planet in a different world.

As long as the alien was wasn't on the exam.

She nodded at that, wiping off what she'd written and writing: I'd actually be worse than not-helpful in that case. And under that, after a pause, Hungry? I was going to make a sandwich, you want one?.

Part of the reason Star and James got on well was because they both liked food. Though in Star's case it was more that she hadn't had a lot of it, and was still getting used to having it readily available.

Clary shifted in her seat slightly, bending one leg and bringing it up on the chair. Her attention was going to have to be toward the fridge since apparently she was going to be reading the rest of this conversation. "It's alright, I'll figure it out eventually...hopefully" she said with a slight glare toward her book.

The last time she had anything to eat, besides the two cookies, was before breakfast, which was around 8:30, so she was feeling a little hungry. "Sure." she said with a smile. "That would be great." Clary reached for her coffee cup, taking a sip of the still hot liquid. Food would be good. "Thanks." she said after a few seconds, remembering to be polite.

There was a double thumbs-up from Star as she went about getting out everything she'd need, writing another quick note, only marginally more sloppy for the speed, but still quite readable: Ham & cheddar? Turkey & Swiss? Just veggies? Just cheese?

She didn't want to make something Clary wouldn't like, after all.

Wow, options, she hadn't really been expecting that. "Uhh." she said, pausing before looking at the options. "Ham and Swiss?" was that an option? Mix and match, seemed like a good idea.

Setting down her cup, she sort of felt like just sitting there was being a little bit of a lazy pants. "Do you want any help?" she could make her own, didn't seem right to leave all the work to him.

Star shrugged, she'd already gotten bread lined up, as well as condiments, she was used to slapping food together for a platoon if not a whole army, so two sandwiches was nothing to her. She pointed to the lettuce and tomatoes in the counter, both brows arching slightly in question.

If Clary wanted to wash and chop things it would be more than helpful as far as Star was concerned.

It wasn't exactly hard to get the message. It didn't matter, but if she wanted to help, there were veggies to be washed and cut or ripped. That she could do. Sliding out of her chair, Clary pushed her hair back out of her face and behind her shoulders, before walking over to the lettuce.

She got out a knife, cutting board and brought the veggies to the sink to give them a quick wash before setting them down and started to cut them up. At least this wasn't Izzys cooking. She'd yet to try any of that but it sort of looked like it could kill someone if they ate it. Not the most appealing thing.

When she had them sliced on the cutting board, she picked it up and brought it over to the girl, planting it close to where she was working with a smile.

By the time she'd finished with that, Star had the bread ready, whistling cheerfully again as she slapped the sandwiches together, cutting them into halves and sliding Clary's onto a plate, handing it over with a grin, washing off the cutlery she'd used before leaning against the counter to dig into her own, making contented little noises as she did.
