For a brief moment, Caroline had feared for her and Matt's lives. The look he'd given her had shaken her to the very core and she had no idea what he would do next. She'd seen what he was capable of doing, heard about even worse things that had happened, but looking into the eyes of a man who seemed like he had nothing left to lose was terrifying. She didn't allow herself to breathe until he was gone and she turned to Matt, unable to formulate anything appropriate to say. How did one ask for forgiveness for putting their friend's life in danger? Because Caroline was certain that was exactly what she'd done and that danger wasn't about to end anytime soon.
"Yeah, let's go," she finally breathed out, wanting nothing more than to get clear of the troubled whispers and stares and make sure Matt arrived safely back to his apartment. The rest she could figure out later on. His safety trumped everything else for the moment.
