To say that Matt was uncomfortable would have been an understatement. The thinly veiled cat-and-mouse game that Klaus and Caroline seemed to be playing definitely made him feel like a third wheel. Which could have been worse, but he was starting to wish he'd asked Rebekah to join them. Or Vicki. It was hard to imagine his sister would be be anymore interested in looking at old paintings than he was truthfully, but at least there would have been another buffer. Then again, he didn't want Klaus anywhere near his sister.
When Caroline spoke to him, Matt glanced at her for a moment, studying her expression and trying to read it. "That's a good point. Plenty of time ahead for everything you want to try." Unlike him, who needed to make a decision and stick to it. He didn't have eternal life to explore like Caroline.
He smiled when she bumped her hip into his. "I haven't ruled it out," he assured her. And now that he thought more about it, about how he didn't know how much time he would have, heading straight to college seemed like it might be a better idea. He wondered what Jeremy and Vicki planned to do.
The contrast between the paintings was almost startling. This one was a landscape, colorful and almost whimsical compared to the last. "Interesting."
