“Sometimes you should worry about what others think, what your friends think, what your family might think. Usually they have your best interest at heart.” Not always, it was true, but that didn’t mean it was better to balk at what others might say. “And sometimes you shouldn’t give so much weight to them. But its all about finding the balance so you don’t end up friendless and alone surrounded by nothing but beautiful paintings.”
There was more on the tip of her tongue to say, but Caroline reeled it in, not at all sure how Klaus would react to that and wary of putting Matt in any danger. She was fairly sure this was outing was going to rank up there in the Top 10 stupidest decisions she had ever made and forced herself to turn her attention back to her friend, trying to squash some of the overwhelming need she had to be defiant in all of her replies.
“Well, there’s art history.” Which Caroline figured was fairly obvious considering Klaus’ comments and the fact they were in the museum. “But also design, politics, marketing, business. I’ll probably just do the undergrad credits that everyone needs at first anyway before declaring any sort of major. Technically I could do all of them eventually.” Depending on how long she avoided death by pointy objects or other means, she could realistically do any major that she wanted with enough patience and time.
She couldn’t help but bump her hip against Matt, grinning at him, trying to break the tension she wasn’t even sure was there. Maybe it was all in her mind. “Still think you should rethink this whole Senior year thing and come to college with me.” Redoing the year at a school where she’d know no one just seemed really unappealing to her, but ultimately it was his decision to make in the end.
The new painting was Blick auf Davos, a shift from people to landscaping but Caroline checked the plate beneath it, noting that it was by the same artist. “I’d say something changed in the artist’s life.”
