Everything had been coming together so brilliantly that it was like a dream to Jack. He’d always wanted to do something more than bend spoons and pick pockets and it seemed that finally that was happening. Four strong magical solo acts really could come together to form something bigger, something more important. He was still feeling an adrenaline buzz from his brush with Agent Rhodes as he was running out to the car just as planned, but when he took a moment to get his bearings a look of confusion crossed his face.
This was not New York. He knew that much. In his head he’d ran this plan a million times to iron out any possible snags. It was frustrating to think that after all his preparations the Horsemen’s plans could be ruined. Just one minor mistake could derail everything, but this wasn’t even a little mistake. It was an entire change of scenario.
Cautiously, Jack stuffed his hands into his pockets and walked the sidewalk, trying not to call attention to himself. Certain things caught his eye - newspapers, signs - and they all indicated he’d been right in suspecting that he was no longer in New York. This was a few states over. Kansas. Jack tried to make sense of it, but that was a hopeless effort. Transporting him across state lines like that? There was no way it could have been done in a matter of seconds. It briefly crossed his mind that perhaps there was something more going on, that perhaps this was The Eye intervening and changing things up. If that was the case, his friends were safe. The Eye wouldn’t have thrown them into the fray only to let them fail spectacularly, right? Jack shook his head. No matter what was going on, he had to fix it. There were no questions on that topic. He was a well concealed mess, scolding himself for somehow possibly ruining the plan while keeping a calm and composed look on his face.
