She wasn't sure what, exactly, happened all the time. She knew he was sleeping through the night better thanks to the pills he took, but perhaps even in a sound sleep, he was plagued with nightmares. Or perhaps it was something more, something she didn't know about yet. But she'd promised not to push. He'd tell her in time.
When he leaned into her touch, it became more deliberate, more intent. If she could offer him anything of herself to make him feel just a bit better, she would. "We'll raise any child we have in the most loving home possible," she countered, leaning up to kiss the cheek she wasn't stroking tenderly. "And his or her dad will be an incredible dad, even in his darkest moments, because he loves me and he'll love them, too."
