His brow furrowed in concern at that tone. Because he knew it well enough to know she was disappointed. And though right now there were plenty of reasons for her to be disappointed in him, and she'd already made that clear enough, that didn't seem the cause.
"Is...are you okay?" Inwardly he cursed the fumbled sentence. He might have been dreading a discussion he was sure was coming, but if she was hurting he wanted to be there for her. Not be worrying about that. He hated feeling that way, particularly where she was concerned. He never wanted to feel so reluctant to talk to her, and he knew he shouldn't.
