She heard him coming home, but she didn't say a word. Maybe she should have done this at Lois'. What was the point of worrying him for nothing? Or getting his hopes up and dashing them? She really didn't know what his reaction would be. Once, she'd have known for certain. They'd talked so many times of how badly they'd wanted a family of their own. Not just here, though that, too. They'd so wanted to fill Locksley Manor with little ones, raise children on the land they'd both loved. And here, oh it would be different, they both knew that. But they'd still wanted it, or she'd hoped they had.
Now? Now she wasn't certain. She wanted to think he still did but the way everything was going wrong around them, she simply wasn't sure.
"Hi," she all but whispered, her eyes still looking down at the little stick in her hand. This...it wasn't fair. She couldn't deny the wave of disappointment that ran through her. For all the fears and worries if she was, she'd have been lying if she said she hadn't wanted this.
She stood up, not looking at him as she tossed the stupid stick into the nearest bin. It wasn't worth stressing out over. They had more than enough to be dealing with right now.
Turning back to face him, she forced a smile on to her face. "Did you have a nice walk?" As if she didn't know the reason he'd all but escaped the apartment, giving her enough time to do the test in the first place.
