This Peter was so different from the one she knew. Even the way he moved sent chills down her spine. It was all too similar to Jerry. She supposed that it was a vampire thing or at least a trait belonging to vampires from her world. It was awful seeing him like this. In Vegas he’d done everything in his power to never have to face life as a vampire. He’d invested so much money in collecting weapons and artifacts, not to mention the money he put towards his panic room. This Peter had even confessed over the coms that he’d told Jerry he’d rather die than be a vampire prior to his turning. Amy shook her head, trying to shake away all of the persistent thoughts and images that were interfering with her focus. He wasn’t himself now and for all she knew he could have been eager to see her dead. She had to remain at least mostly levelheaded.
“Don’t feel too bad about it. Vampires just don’t do it for me.” Amy nervously shifted her weight from foot to foot. Somewhere in the mess that was her mind she was telling herself that she had to run, get out of there as fast as she could, but he was still so close to the doorway and she didn’t want to get too near to him.
When he brought up Ed it was like she was reliving that moment in her head. He had been Charley’s best friend since childhood. The two had drifted apart since Charley had started to date Amy, but she knew that he still cared for Ed. It had to have been so difficult for him to kill his friend, as difficult as it would be for Amy to kill Peter. Then, though, they hadn’t known about the St. Michael stake. They hadn’t known that Ed could be brought back. That was the glaring difference between the two instances. Amy still wanted to save Peter. Even after all the things he’d told her as a vampire, even after he’d basically told her that death would be more merciful than getting his humanity back, she still wanted to save him.
“I care about him. The human Peter.” She corrected him. “You, though? You I could kill.” It was a complete bluff. There was no way she could imagine stabbing the wooden instrument deep in his chest. It was important that he not know that, though. Amy believed that it was vital to her survival.
