Who: Bart and Virgil What: Awkward times? I mean ADORABLE TIMES. When: Night Where: The apartment building in Lawrence; Oliver’s place Rating: TBA
He hadn’t uttered more than ten words during the drive back and what he did say came in response to questions Oliver asked him. The car had been awkwardly silent. The lack of noise wouldn’t have been so strange if Bart wasn’t known for not shutting his mouth pretty much ever. Every ten minutes or so he would catch glimpses of Oliver glancing back at him through the mirror and he would feign not noticing or not caring enough to return the gesture. Trapped in an enclosed space with Virgil and with Tim and Oliver was more complicated than he would have thought possible. Bart had no love for being forced to get from one point to another in a car to begin with, but in the aftermath of what had taken place, it was nearly too much. He wanted out. The seconds dragged. The car didn’t move fast enough. It felt like a cage; a slow, very unpleasant cage.
The car stopped and he didn’t run even then. Oliver’s hand on his shoulder stopped him from moving too fast. He walked steadily with Oliver in back of him, guiding and making sure that he went where he wanted him to go. Bart didn’t have it in him to look annoyed. Doing what was wanted of him was less of a hassle. Looking on as Oliver treated him like he was seven and not seventeen was the best way for him to respond, not just for him, but for them all.
Sitting at the table in Oliver’s apartment was somehow better than sitting anywhere else. He’d gone… somewhere, outside, downstairs, into a part of the building that wasn’t there. Bart had thought of following him and Oliver had looked back at him to see if he would, but he hadn’t moved to hint at wanting to tag along. He moved through the door that was still wide open and stayed there, instead, where he immediately took up staring at the wall. There was nothing remotely interesting on that wall to see, but he could stare if he wanted. At nothing. Which was of course, going to get boring fast.
